Eligibility Criteria for PhD Admission 2025-26

Candidates are eligible to apply for the Ph.D. program if they meet one of the following criteria:

  1. A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree, or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree after a 3-year bachelor’s degree, with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade. A relaxation of 5% marks is permitted for candidates from SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, EWS, and other categories.
  2. An equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution that is accredited by a recognized agency.
  3. For candidates applying after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 75% marks or an equivalent grade is required, with a 5% relaxation for reserved categories.
  4. Completion of an M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade. A relaxation of 5% marks is also applicable for reserved categories in this case.

Admission Procedure and Entrance Exam

The admission process is based on a two-step approach. Initially, UGC NET qualified candidates (JRF, Assistant Professor, or Ph.D.) are shortlisted for an interview. Admission for these candidates is based on their performance in the interview. If any seats remain vacant, an entrance exam will be conducted for other eligible candidates. Shortlisted candidates will be required to give a presentation of their research proposal to a panel of experts for the final selection. The entrance test will have two parts. The application fee for the Ph.D. program is Rs 1000/- only.

Course Work & Fee Structure

There is a mandatory six-month course work in regular mode for all selected Ph.D. candidates. Candidates must appear for a course-work examination at the end of this period. The fee structure is as follows:

Ph.D. Programme Duration

The minimum duration for the Ph.D. program, including course work, is three years, and the maximum is six years. An additional two years can be granted through a re-registration process, but the total period should not exceed eight years. Female Ph.D. scholars and Persons with Disabilities (with more than 40% disability) are allowed an additional two-year relaxation, bringing their total maximum duration to ten years from the date of admission.
