Introduction: University of Kashmir PhD Admission 2025-26 Notification

The University of Kashmir PhD Admission 2025-26 notification has been released for the Ph.D. programme, Cycle II, Oct-2025. Applications are invited online from eligible candidates for admission in various disciplines/subjects available at the Main Campus and other Satellite Campuses of the University. Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility criteria to apply.

Eligibility Criteria for University of Kashmir PhD Admission 2025-26

Candidates must satisfy the following criteria (A) to be eligible for the University of Kashmir PhD Admission 2025-26 programme:

  1. Master’s Degree Requirement:** 55% marks in aggregate, or its equivalent grade “B” in the UGC 7-point scale (excluding grace/statutory marks, if any), in a Master’s Degree in the concerned subject/allied subject from a recognized university.
  2. 4-Year Bachelor’s Degree Pathway: Completion of a 1-year/2-semester Master’s Degree after a 4-year/8-Semester Bachelor’s Degree OR a 4-year/8-Semesters Degree with a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate.
  3. 3-Year Bachelor’s Degree Pathway:Completion of a 2-year/4-Semester Master’s Degree after a 3-year Bachelor’s Degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate.
  4. M.Phil. Qualification: Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade.
  5. Relaxation: A relaxation of 5% of marks (from 55% to 50%) or equivalent grade relaxation shall be allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/RBA/EWS (Non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled categories as per UGC Regulation-2022.

Exempted Candidates (B)

Candidates who have qualified UGC/CSIR-NET/JRF, or ICMR-JRF, or ICAR-NET/JRF, or SET/SLET/GATE/CEED/GPAT, or any other equivalent test declared so by the UGC, or have been awarded M. Phil. are eligible for selection based on the priority procedure.

Procedure for Admission and Selection Criteria

Admission to the University of Kashmir PhD Admission 2025-26 will be made based on the eligibility criteria in a priority-wise manner:

1st Priority: NET-JRF Qualified Candidates

Candidates who have “qualified NET for award of JRF and Appointment as Assistant Professor and Admission to Ph.D” will be selected first. If the number of vacancies is less than the number of JRF candidates, selection is through an interaction with the DRC:

2nd Priority: NET (Assistant Professor) Qualified Candidates

If seats remain vacant, the 2nd priority goes to candidates who have “qualified NET for Appointment as Assistant Professor and Admission to Ph.D”. Admission is based on:

The scores obtained in the NET by a candidate will be valid for a period of one year for admission to Ph.D. (from the date of issuance of the NET Certificate).

3rd Priority: Other Qualified Test Candidates

If seats remain vacant, the 3rd priority is for candidates who have “qualified NET for admission to Ph.D/GATE/SET/SLET/previously qualified NET candidates.” Selection shall be made as per the criteria laid down for the 1st priority (interaction with DRC with 100 weightage).

The DRC shall fill up the available vacancies priority-wise. A tie in marks shall be resolved based on the percentage of marks secured in the Master’s or Equivalent Degree.

Eligibility for Part-time Ph.D. Programme

The basic eligibility and admission procedure for in-service candidates joining as part-time Ph.D. students remain the same as for whole-time candidates. The following categories of employees can apply:

  • University teachers with at least two years of substantive service.
  • Permanent scientists from nationally recognized institutions (Scientist A/B/C/D) with at least four years of substantive service.
  • Govt. College teachers with at least four years of substantive service.
  • Non-teaching employees of the universities/nationally recognized educational and research institutions with at least four years of substantive service.
  • State/Central Govt. employees with seven years of substantive service.

Applicants for the University of Kashmir PhD Admission 2025-26 must visit the official University website (www.kashmiruniversity.ac.in) and submit applications online by clicking “Application Form for research programmes-2025 (Cycle II, Oct-2025)” under the Admission Tab.

  • Application Period: 01.10.2025 to 15.10.2025
  • Application Fee:** Applicants are required to deposit a non-refundable application fee of Rs.300/-through online mode.
  • In-Service Applicants:Required to mention the date of appointment/Department and Length of Service, supported by documentary proof to be uploaded along with qualification certificates.
