Introduction to IISER Berhampur PhD Admission 2025-26
The IISER Berhampur PhD Admission 2025-26 is currently open for the AY 2025-26, Semester-II (January 2026).
The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Berhampur (IISER Berhampur) invites applications from highly motivated students for admission to its Ph.D. programme starting from January 2026.
The primary aim of the Ph.D. Program is to develop graduates with strong knowledge and research training in both classical and emerging areas of science.
Prospective students are strongly encouraged to go through the profiles of the Faculty Members and familiarize themselves with their specialization and research interests for a suitable match. Eligibility Criteria for IISER Berhampur PhD Admission
The general eligibility requirements for IISER Berhampur PhD Admission 2025-26 are as follows:
Minimum Academic Qualifications:
- M.Sc./MCA/M.Tech. Degree in the relevant discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 7.0 on a 10-point scale. This is based on the Overall percentage/CGPA/CPI, not only the majoring subject.
- A relaxation of 5% of marks, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, will be allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD categories.
Mandatory National Level Examination/Score:
A National level examination like the National Eligibility Test (NET)/GATE/UGC-JRF/CSIR-JRF/DBT (JRF A category)/ICMR (JRF category)/NET-LS/INSPIRE-PhD/JGEEBILS/JEST/or any other recognized score is mandatory. The certificate/fellowship MUST be valid at the time of admission.
Exemptions from Mandatory Requirements:
Certain candidates are exempted from the mandatory national level examination requirement:
- B.Tech/B.E./B.S. (or equivalent) degree from a CFTI (Centrally Funded Technical Institute) at the time of application with a CGPA/CPI of at least 8.0 (on a scale of 10) or equivalent.
- Students with CGPA $\ge 8.0$ in BS-MS dual degree from any of the IISERs.
- Exceptionally brilliant candidates with an MBBS degree may also apply for Ph.D. programs.
Age Limit:
The applicant’s age should not exceed 28 years at the time of joining. Age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories:
- 3 years relaxation for OBC (Non Creamy Layer).
- 5 years relaxation for SC/ST/PwD/Female candidates.

Selection Mode:
Selection will be based on interviews of the short-listed candidates.
- The interview shall be conducted in offline mode.
- Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview.
- The interview date will be communicated to shortlisted candidates by e-mail and made available on the Institute website.
- TA will be paid to SC/ST candidates appearing for the interview as per Govt. of India norms.
- Mere fulfillment of the eligibility criterion does not guarantee a call for the test and interview.
Financial Assistance and Reservation Policy
Financial Assistance:
Candidates admitted to the Ph.D. Program (Regular) will be eligible for financial assistance as per the norms of IISER Berhampur or the external funding agency.
Reservation Policy:
The norms of reservation for different categories will be adopted as laid down by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
Important Note on Physical Sciences Vacancies:
The Department of Physical Sciences has vacancies for SC/ST/PwD/OBC-NCL Categories only.
Information for Candidates Awaiting Results:
Candidates who are appearing or are about to appear for final examinations of the qualifying degree programme are eligible to apply. However, their final selection is strictly subject to the successful completion of the qualifying degree with the required marks/CGPA at the time of admission. A provisional degree certificate is mandatory at the time of admission.
