Admission Schemes for NIT Goa PhD Admission 2025-26
Admission to the Ph.D. programmes will be in the following schemes:
- Full-Time (with scholarship): Candidates selected under this scheme shall be entitled to scholarship/assistantship and House Rent Allowance (HRA) as per Govt. of India norms. Requires valid GATE/JRF/NET/CSIR/DST-INSPIRE qualification (see Scholarship Requirement section).
- Part-Time: Generally for candidates working in institutions near NIT Goa, who can attend classes and complete research work as required. Requires a “No Objection Certificate” from the employer.
- Self-Financed: Candidates who secure admission but are not entitled to any scholarship/assistantship from the Institute. This is a full-time program requiring physical presence on campus.
- Sponsored: Candidates employed in a reputed organization who are sponsored by their employer for the PhD programme on a full-time basis, requiring physical presence on campus.
Eligibility and Academic Requirements
Minimum eligibility for NIT Goa PhD Admission 2025-26 varies by department.
Ph. D in Engineering and Technology (CSE, ECE, EEE, CVE, MCE)
- Master’s Degree: M.Tech/M.E. with minimum 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks.

Ph. D in Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS)
- Master’s Degree: M.A./M.Phil. in relevant discipline with minimum 6.0 CGPA or 55% marks.
Important Note on Minimum Marks
A relaxation of 0.5 CGPA or 5% marks is applicable for SC/ST/PwD candidates in all categories.

Selection Procedure & Scholarship Requirement
Selection Procedure
The final selection for the NIT Goa PhD Admission 2025-26 will be based on a two-stage process:
- Shortlisting: Based on the overall academic performance and the result of a written test conducted by the respective Department.
- Interview: Performance in the personal interview conducted by the respective Departmental Research Committee (DRC).
Scholarship Requirement
For candidates applying for the Full-Time (with scholarship) scheme, a valid national level qualification is mandatory, which includes a valid score in GATE, JRF/UGC-NET/CSIR-NET/DST-INSPIRE, or any other National Level Tests as per the Ministry of Education (MoE) and Government of India (GoI) norms.

Supporting Documents (Mandatory)
Applicants MUST be ready with the following scanned documents, whichever applicable (merged into one pdf file), while submitting the online Ph.D. application.
- Certificate of 10th class as the proof of age.
- Certificate of 12th class/Diploma/ITI.
- Bachelor’s degree certificate and marks card.
- Master’s Degree/Provisional certificate and marks card (Course completion certificate is required if the result is awaited – Refer ANNEXURE-II).
- Valid National Level Examination Score Card (GATE/NET/JRF, etc.) for Full-Time scheme.
- Caste/Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS) as per Government of India format (Refer ANNEXURE-II). OBC-NCL/EWS certificate must be issued on or after April 01, 2025.
- Undertaking by the candidate on OBC-NCL status (Refer ANNEXURE-II).
- Certificate for Persons with Disabilities (PWD), if applicable (Refer ANNEXURE-II).
- No Objection Certificate (NoC) from the Employer (for Part-Time candidates).
- Sponsorship Letter for Sponsored Ph.D. Program.

Semester-wise Institute Fees (SC, ST, PH)
The tuition fee of ₹7,500 is fully remitted for SC/ST/PwD students whose family income is less than ₹1.00 lakh per annum. The tuition fee is 2/3rd remitted for family income between ₹1.00 lakh and ₹5.00 lakh per annum. Eligible candidates will pay the remaining non-tuition components.
