Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must fulfil the following minimum requirements for admission to the Ph.D. Programme:
- Master’s Degree: Must possess a two-year Master’s degree in Veterinary & Animal Sciences, M.Tech. (Dairy Technology/ Dairy Chemistry/ Dairy Microbiology), or M.F.Sc..
- Minimum Marks/OGPA: Securing at least 55% marks in aggregate or 2.75 OG.P.A. in 4.00 point scale or 6.75 O.G.P.A. in 10 point scale.
- Bachelor’s Degree: The Master’s Degree must follow a Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary and Animal Sciences (5 years)/ Dairy Technology (4 years)/ Fishery Sciences (4 years) from a recognized University or National Institute.
- Subject Requirement: Candidates seeking admission to a Ph.D. course in a subject must have passed the Master’s Degree in the same subject and have done sufficient courses in the proposed major field of specialization.
- Document Submission: Submission of PDC/Final Transcript is obligatory with the application.
In-Service Candidates
There is no separate quota for In-service candidates. However, an ‘NOC’ (No Objection Certificate) from the employer is obligatory during the time of application.

- Admit card of Secondary Examinations/Birth certificate as age proof.
- Final Transcript/ PDC of Bachelor’s Degree Examination.
- Provisional / Final Degree Certificate of Master’s Degree Examination.
- Final Transcript of Master’s Degree Examination.
- Reservation Category Certificate (wherever applicable).
- NOC from the Employer (In case of In-service candidate).
- Character Certificate issued by the Dean/Principal of the Faculty/College last attended.
Selection Procedure and Merit List
The selection process for the West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS) PhD Admission 2025-26 is strictly based on the academic score at the Master’s Degree level, performance in the Written Test, and the Personal Interview.
The total marks for the preparation of the merit list is 100, distributed as follows:
- Academic Score (Master’s Degree): 40%
- Written Test: 40%
- Personal Interview: 20%
The qualifying marks for admission is minimum 50% in aggregate in Academic Score, Written Test, and Personal Interview.
Exempted Candidates
Candidates selected through the ICAR all India Examination for admission to the Ph.D. programme shall be exempted from the aforesaid selection process, but must possess the minimum qualification.
Reservation Policy
Reservation of seats will be as per the existing Government rules of West Bengal. Specific inter-change rules apply:
- SC seats, if unfilled, will be filled by ST candidates and vice versa.
- OBC (Category-A) seats, if unfilled, will be filled by OBC (Category-B) candidates and vice versa.
- OBC (Category-A)/OBC (Category-B) candidates must belong to the Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) and must produce an updated NCL certificate on or after 01.04.2025, as per Govt. of West Bengal guidelines.
