Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D. Interview

Candidates must fulfil the following conditions to be considered for the Bose Institute (Basu Bigyan Mandir) PhD Admission 2025-26 interview:

  1. Age: Below 28 years as on the closing date of online application. Age relaxation is applicable as per Government of India rules.
  2. Fellowship: Must hold a valid Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) awarded after qualifying in a national-level test such as:
    • CSIR-UGC NET, DBT-JRF, DBT-BINC-JRF, ICMR-NET, DST-INSPIRE, JEST or equivalent.
    • The validity date of the fellowship should not be earlier than $31^{st}$ January 2026.
  3. Master’s Degree: Must have a Master’s degree or equivalent in Engineering/ Science/ Technology/Medical with:
    • At least 55% of marks for General candidates.
    • At least 50% of marks for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ Differently Abled Persons and other categories (as per UGC norms).
  4. Final Year Candidates: Candidates in the final year of their master’s degree program who also hold a valid national-level test qualification (as mentioned above) are eligible to apply. However, they must submit their final mark sheet or degree certificate at the time of joining.
  5. DST INSPIRE Candidates: Candidates possessing a DST INSPIRE Fellowship must also have qualified in an appropriate national-level eligibility examination like GATE, JEST, NET LS/Assistant Professor/admission to Ph.D. or equivalent at the time of application.
  6. Non-JRF Holders: Candidates who have qualified in GATE, JEST, NET LS/Assistant Professor/admission to Ph.D., or any other national-level examination but do not hold a valid JRF are eligible to apply. Their test scores must remain valid until at least $31^{st}$ January 2026. A limited number of fellowships offered by Bose Institute are available for this category based on performance during the interview.
Important Note on ICAR Fellowship: Candidates holding only an ICAR Fellowship are not eligible, unless they also have a valid award letter from one of the fellowships mentioned in point (2).

Fellowship and Stipend Details

The fellowship amounts for the Bose Institute (Basu Bigyan Mandir) PhD Admission 2025-26 programme are admissible as per Government of India rules provided by UGC/ CSIR/ DBT/DST/ICMR or Bose Institute. These amounts are usually:

  • Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): Rs. 37,000 + HRA (as applicable)
  • Senior Research Fellowship (SRF): Rs. 42,000 + HRA (as applicable)
Provisional Admission for DST-INSPIRE: DST-INSPIRE candidates can only be admitted provisionally. Confirmation of admission is subject to the final award of the INSPIRE fellowship by DST. If the fellowship is not finally awarded by DST, the provisional admission is liable to be cancelled by the Institute.

    • A valid Caste Certificate for SC/ST/OBC category. OBC candidates must furnish a certificate in the prescribed Proforma, certifying the candidate does not belong to the Creamy Layer.
  3. Submission: Carefully fill out all details, as no correspondence regarding changes will be entertained once submitted. Applicants may save the properly filled application form in PDF format before submitting.
  4. Acknowledgement: Following successful submission, an acknowledgement receipt will be generated and sent to the candidate’s email ID. Candidates must retain this receipt for future reference.

Mandatory Interview Requirements: If called for an interview, candidates must:

  • Produce the online application acknowledgement receipt. No candidate will be allowed to appear without it.
  • Produce all the original documents/certificates (age, reservation, educational qualifications) along with one set of self-attested copies for verification.
  • Appear in-person for the interview.
  • Be prepared to submit an option form stating their relative preference for area of research interest after interaction sessions and lab visits.
