Eligibility Criteria for University of Calcutta (CU) PhD Admission 2025-26
Candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for the University of Calcutta (CU) PhD Admission 2025-26 For Sociology:
- Master’s Degree: A Master’s degree in Sociology is mandatory, with at least 55% of marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade B+ in the UGC 7-point scale.
- Reservation/Relaxation: A relaxation of 5% of marks or an equivalent relaxation of grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/Person with Disability (PWD) and other categories as per UGC guidelines.
- RET Exemption: Candidates with NET/SET/SLET/ M. Phil in Sociology are exempted from the written test but must appear for the interview.

- Obtain Proforma: The application proforma is available with the advertisement on the University website: www.caluniv.ac.in.
- Application Fee: A payment of Rs.100/- (online) must be made through SBI collect (http://www.onlinesbi.com/sbicollect).
- Submission: The application form, duly filled in, along with the online payment receipt and all relevant documents, is to be submitted to the office of the Head, Department of Sociology, University of Calcutta, 1 Reformatory Street, Alipore, Kolkata 700027.
- Submission Timing: Submission must be made on all working days between 12 Noon – 3:30 PM in an enclosed envelope.
- Deadline: The application must be submitted within one month from the date of uploading the advertisement in the University website.
- Equivalence Clearance: The equivalence clearance, if required, should be obtained from the Registrar’s office, University of Calcutta, College Street campus, as early as possible and latest before the submission of the application form.

Interview

Important Notes:
- The date and time of the Written test and Interview would be communicated only through the University of Calcutta website. No personal intimation will be sent to any applicant.
- The list of candidates eligible for the written test will be displayed on the notice board of the Department and on the University website within ten days from the last date of submission of application.
- Appearing for the interview does not guarantee admission to the Ph.D. programme and Ph.D. registration.
- Incomplete form(s) are liable to rejection.
