Eligibility Criteria
Candidates applying for the Tripura University (TU) PhD Admission 2025-26 must meet one of the following criteria:
- A 1-year/2-semester Master’s degree after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree OR a 2-year/4-semester Master’s degree after a 3-year Bachelor’s degree, OR equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution, with:
- At least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade.
- Relaxation of 5% marks is allowed for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, EWS, and other categories.
- A candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree programme should have:
- A minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade.
- A relaxation of 5% marks is allowed for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, EWS, and other categories.
- Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade.
- A relaxation of 5% marks is allowed for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, EWS, and other categories.
Admission Procedure
Admission to the Tripura University (TU) PhD Admission 2025-26 program will be based on criteria notified by the University, adhering to UGC guidelines and reservation policy. Admission shall be made through one of the following methods:
- Direct Interview: For students who have qualified for a fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET/CEED/GPAT/NET with NFSC/NFST fellowship and similar National level tests.
- NET + Interview: For students who have Qualified the National Eligibility Test (Category 2 and 3/NETLS or Ph.D.) conducted by the UGC.
- Research Eligibility Test (RET) + Interview: Tripura University will conduct an RET for admission.
- Selection based on RET will have a weightage of 70% for the entrance test and 30% for the interview/viva-voce.
- The qualifying marks for admission shall be 50%.
- A relaxation of 5% marks is allowed in the entrance examination for SC/ST/OBC/differently-abled, EWS, and other categories.
- The RET paper will be of seventy marks, with 50% of questions from Research Methodology. The duration is three hours from 11:00 AM onwards.
The Viva-voce/interview will assess the candidate’s competence for the proposed research, suitability of the research work at the Institution/College, and the potential contribution of the proposed area to new/additional knowledge.

- Login details are sent to the provided e-mail ID or mobile number via SMS, which will be used for all future correspondences.
- Applicants are required to upload a scanned photograph, and eligible certificates (SC/ST/EWS/OBC-Central & Non Creamy layer/Students from Jammu & Kashmir, PWD).
- Incomplete applications can be saved as a draft and completed later by logging in.
- For applicants appearing in examinations, ‘Year of Passing’ is the Year of Appearance, and ‘Division/Grade Obtained’ and ‘% of Marks / CGPA’ are marked as 0.
- Once submitted, the application cannot be altered under any circumstances, so ensure accuracy before submission.
- After successful payment status verification (which may take 4-6 working days), the printout/download of the application form will be treated as the ‘Admit Card’ for the Admission Test.
Important Notes
- Qualifying in RET/NET does not guarantee admission into the Ph.D. program.
- The University shall not be held responsible for technical or other problems during or after the online application and submission process.
- For any kind of dispute regarding admission related matters, the decision of the Tripura University Authority shall be final.
