Eligibility Criteria for BPSMV PhD Admission 2025-26

Academic eligibility for the Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya (BPSMV) PhD Admission 2025-26 is determined based on either of the two criteria outlined below:

Criterion 1: Master’s Degree/Equivalent Qualifications

  1. A 1-year/2-semester Master’s degree after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree, OR
  2. A 2-year/4-semester Master’s degree after a 3-year Bachelor’s degree, OR
  3. Qualifications declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by a corresponding statutory regulatory body.
Candidates must have at least 55% marks (in aggregate) or its equivalent grade in a point scale. There is a relaxation of 5% (i.e., 52.5%) for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PwBD, EWS candidates.
Note for 4-year Bachelor’s Degree Holders: A candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate (72.5% for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PwBD, EWS) or its equivalent grade.

Criterion 2: M. Phil. Degree

An M. Phil. degree acquired after a Post-Graduate degree, in accordance with UGC Ph.D./M. Phil. Regulations, 2016 and its amendments. The candidate must have at least 55% marks in aggregate (52.5% for reserved categories) or its equivalent B grade in UGC seven-point scale in the concerned or allied subject(s).

Admission Procedure

Admissions to the Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya (BPSMV) PhD Admission 2025-26 programme are made through two modes:
  1. Mode A (Exempted Category): Candidates having a valid UGC JRF/CSIR-UGC JRF/UGC NET/CSIR-UGC NET/GATE/CEED/DST Inspire Fellow/Teacher Fellowship holder, or any other equivalent national level fellowship.
  2. Mode B (Entrance Test Category): Through a University Entrance Test conducted by the Controller of Examinations (CoE) for subjects where the NET examination is not conducted by the UGC/CSIR.
The seats will first be offered to exempted category candidates in a specified order of preference (Category-1, Category-2, Category-3 NET qualified candidates) based on their performance in an interview conducted by the Departmental Research Committee (DRC). For Categories 2 and 3, the final merit will be calculated with 70% weightage for test scores (if applicable) and 30% for the interview.

Admission through University Entrance Test

For subjects not covered by the UGC/CSIR NET, candidates for the Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya (BPSMV) PhD Admission 2025-26 must appear for a written Entrance Test.
  • The entrance test will be of two hours duration carrying 100 marks.
  • The question paper will have two parts:
    • Part-I (Research Methodology): 50 objective type (MCQ) questions carrying 50 marks. The syllabus will be of a general nature to assess research abilities.
    • Part-II (Subject Specific): 50 marks (Objective type/Descriptive/MCQs) from the concerned subject. The syllabus is laid down by the respective Teaching Department(s).
  • The minimum qualifying marks are 50% (47.5% for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PwBD, EWS candidates).

Merit List for Entrance Test Category

Candidates who qualify for the Ph.D. entrance test will be invited for an interview in order of merit, three times the total number of seats advertised. The final merit list will be prepared based on the following weightage:
  • 70% marks: Based on performance in NET/GATE/other valid and qualifying National Level Test/University entrance test.
  • 30% marks: Based on performance in the interview/viva-voce to be conducted by the respective department, further broken down as:
    • 5% marks for the percentage of marks in the Master’s degree (M.Sc./MBA/M.Com/M.A/M.Tech etc.).
    • 15% marks in the interview to be conducted by the DRC of the respective Department.
    • 5% marks for work experience (01 mark per year, max. 5 marks).
    • 5% marks (01 mark for each publication in peer-reviewed/UGC approved list of Journals, max. 5 marks).

Application Process and Important Notes

The application for Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya (BPSMV) PhD Admission 2025-26 is an online process.
  • Candidates applying for admission must specify whether they intend to pursue a Ph.D. in regular mode or part-time mode.
  • Employed candidates seeking regular admission must produce an NOC from the appropriate authority at the time of the interview, confirming permission for regular study, sufficient time for research, and relief from duty for course work.
  • Unemployed candidates seeking regular admission must submit an undertaking, attested by a First-Class Magistrate, stating that she is not employed in any capacity.
  • Selected candidates are required to deposit the fee within 15 days of the display of the merit list.
  • The Ph.D. programme shall not be conducted through distance and/or online mode.
