Introduction to Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST) PhD Admission 2025-26

The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati, an Autonomous R&D Institute under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, invites applications for admission under its Institutional-JRF Programme for the January 2026 Session. The Institute is engaged in frontier areas of research in the specific domain of Physical, Chemical, Mathematical, and Biological Sciences. The Institute’s aim is to contribute to basic sciences and develop technology using local resources through a strong interdisciplinary research approach. The Institute is equipped with modern and sophisticated instrumentation including TEM, SEM, XRD, LCMS-MS, AFM, DNA Sequencer, and computational facility for cutting edge scientific research. The Ph.D. program of IASST is affiliated with the Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research (AcSIR), Gauhati University, Cotton University, and Deakin University. The Institute invites applications for Institutional JRF admission under the following research areas.

Eligibility Criteria for Institutional JRF Programme

Candidates shall be eligible to apply for admission if they satisfy the following criteria:
  1. Academic Qualification:
    • He/she must have obtained 55% marks in aggregate (Equivalent CGPA on 10 point scale) in the master’s degree examination.
    • For SC/ST candidates, a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in the master’s degree examination is required.
  2. National Level Test Qualification (AND/OR):Must have qualified valid national PhD research fellowship OR specified tests:
    • Qualified valid national PhD research fellowship (CSIR-NET-JRF/UGC-NET-JRF/DBT-JRF/ICMR-JRF).
    • Or Qualified CSIR/UGC-NET Category-2 (appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to PhD).
    • Or Qualified CSIR/UGC-NET Category-3 (admission to PhD only).
    • Or Qualified Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) with validity of test score.
  3. Age Limit:
    • Upper age limit is 28 years as on the last date of application.
    • Age relaxation is applicable as per the GOI Norms.

Application and Selection Process for Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST) PhD Admission 2025-26

Application Procedure

  • Interested candidates should apply through online only via the IASST website: https://iasst.gov.in.
  • The application must be submitted within fifteen days of publication of the advertisement.
  • Incomplete applications or those received after the closing date will not be entertained.

Selection Procedure

  1. Applicants who do not satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria will not be considered for the shortlisting/selection process.
  2. Those candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria mentioned above will be called for interview.
  3. Selection will be based on the performance in the Interview and availability of vacant seat.
  4. The list of applicants shortlisted for the Interview will be uploaded on the IASST website.
  5. The expected date of the Interview will be displayed on the website or communicated to the shortlisted candidates.
  6. The decisions of the admission committee will be final and binding, and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard.
  7. Results of the final selection will be available on the IASST website.

Fellowship/Financial Support for Institutional JRF

  • Selected candidates will be required to join the institutional fellowship program of IASST from 1st January 2026.
  • The selected candidates shall be eligible for a monthly fellowship as per the recent circular of DST, Govt. of India.
  • The fellowship amount is Rs. 37,000 + HRA (as applicable) for JRF.
  • Accommodation: Subject to availability of seat, selected candidates will be provided accommodation in the Dorothy Hodgkin Student and Scientists Home as per the Institute’s rule.

Important Notes

Please Note:
  • No TA/DA will be provided to the candidate for appearing in the selection interview.
  • Selected candidates, after joining, will be eligible to apply for Ph.D. admission in AcSIR or the University under which the supervisor is affiliated.
  • IASST reserves the right not to fill up its JRF position for this academic year if suitable candidates are not found in any discipline.
