Bangalore University (BU) PhD Admission 2026 (January) notification has been officially released. Applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission to full-time and part-time PhD programmes in various subjects for the academic year 2026. The process involves an online application submission, an entrance test (for most candidates), and an interview.
The candidates shall submit the hardcopy of the online-submitted application with all mandatory enclosures to Chairperson/Coordinator of PG Departments. The application and fees, received after the last date will be rejected automatically and fees so remitted, if any will be forfeited.

Apparel Technology and Management, Biochemistry, Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Communication, Economics, Education, Electronic Media, Electronic Science, English, Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, Hindi, History, Kannada (BUB & PG Centre Vijayanagara), Law, Library & Information Science, Life Science, Management (BUB & Research Centers), Mathematics, Computer Science and Application, Microbiology & Biotechnology, Performing Arts, Physics, Physical Education, Political Science, Psychology, Rural Development, Sociology, Statistics, Telugu, Urdu and Zoology.

The basic eligibility for Bangalore University (BU) PhD Admission 2026 (January) is as follows:
- Master’s degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade from a UGC-recognized institution.
- A relaxation of 5% marks (i.e., 50%) is allowed for SC/ST/Cat-I/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PwD candidates.
- Candidates with a 4-year bachelor’s degree seeking direct admission must have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate.
- Equivalent qualifications from accredited foreign educational institutions are also accepted.
- M.Phil. degree completed on or before 2009 (Regular Mode) with at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories).
Most candidates must appear for the university-conducted entrance test. The final selection weightage is: Entrance Test (70%) + Interview (30%).

Test Format: 100 MCQs (2 marks each), duration 120 minutes. Question papers are set in English (except for regional language subjects).
Final Score Calculation for Shortlisting: 50% of PG marks + 50% of Entrance Test marks.
The following candidates are exempted from the entrance test and will be selected based on 100% interview performance:
- UGC/CSIR-JRF/NET/KSET/GATE (valid score) qualified candidates.
- Recognized young researchers by DST, UGC, CSIR, INSPIRE, DBT, etc.
- M.Phil. (Regular Mode on or before 2009) degree holders.
- Teachers under QIP, Foreign candidates.
- Project Fellows working under major government-funded research projects.
Their merit list will be prepared based on Post-Graduate/M.Phil. marks.

- Master’s/M.Phil. mark sheets.
- Caste/Income/PwD certificate (if applicable).
- UGC-NET/JRF/GATE scorecard (for exemption).
