Essential Qualification:
- Degree: MSc/MTech in any area of life sciences, MPharma/ MVSc/MBBS or an equivalent degree.
- Marks: Minimum 55% aggregate marks in the qualifying degree (50% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PWD candidates as per GOI norms).
- National Level Test: Candidates must have qualified a national-level test for PhD admission. Eligible tests include:
- Doctoral fellowship/admission tests by UGC, CSIR, ICMR, DST, DBT.
- NABI fellowship or any other government-recognized agency.
- GATE or any other national-level exam qualified candidates are also considered under NABI core grant.
Note: Candidates appearing in the final year/semester exams are eligible to apply, but admission is subject to meeting the criteria at the time of joining. The decision of the Screening Committee regarding the equivalence of degrees and shortlisting is final.
- Selected students must have their own fellowship from recognized granting agencies (CSIR, UGC, DBT, etc.).
- A limited number of candidates without a fellowship but with GATE/National exam qualification may be offered the NABI-Core fellowship based on merit.
The total intake is 36 seats. Reservation is as per Government of India norms:
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 27%
- SC: 15%
- ST: 7.5%
- Persons with Disability (PWD): 5% (horizontal reservation)
- Economically Weaker Sections (EWS): 10% (for candidates not covered under SC/ST/OBC)
Important: Reserved category and EWS candidates must submit valid certificates from appropriate Government authorities. The EWS certificate must be as per Annexure-A in the official advertisement, verifying family income below Rs. 8 lakh and no possession of specified assets.
