Cotton University PhD Admission 2026 has been officially announced. The university invites applications for admission into the Ph.D program across 24 departments under three faculties. A total of 81 seats are available for aspiring researchers. The admission process includes an entrance test (70 marks) and personal interview (30 marks). Candidates with valid NET/JRF (fellowship) or Category 2/3 NET (June 2024 onward) are exempted from the written test. The application portal opens in the last week of February 2026. Note: Arabic & Persian total seats = 4+3=7 as per notification.
- Master's degree or equivalent with minimum 55% marks (or equivalent grade) in a subject related to Ph.D discipline. Also eligible as per UGC Notification F. No. 1-3/2021 (QIP) dated 7th Nov 2022.
- 5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/PWD (disability >40%), EWS categories as per Government of Assam norms.
- PG 4th semester students can apply; candidature conditional upon fulfilling minimum eligibility.
- Grace marks awarded in qualifying exam will not be counted for eligibility.
- Relaxation of 5% in Entrance Exam for SC/ST/OBC/Differently-abled (disability >40%)/EWS candidates.
- For candidates who cleared NET/SLET (before June 2024), 5% relaxation in entrance test qualifying marks may be applicable.
Who can skip the entrance test?
- Candidates with fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET / UGC-CSIR NET / GATE / ICMR / DBT and similar national exams → appear directly in Interview.
- Candidates who qualify in Category 2 in NET Examination since June 2024 → no entrance test.
- Candidates with valid Category 3 NET Certificate → no entrance test.
- All such exempted candidates must still apply online within stipulated time.
Note: Even if exempted, you need to register and later attend only interview.

✅ All candidates including those exempted from entrance test must apply online through https://admissions.cottonuniversity.ac.in/ from last week of February 2026.
- Entrance test (70%) + Personal Interview (30%) for general candidates.
- For candidates exempted (viii, ix): selection based on interview only (100%).
- Entrance test syllabus: 50% Research Methodology + 50% subject-specific.
- Minimum qualifying in entrance: 50% marks (35 marks out of 70). Relaxed by 5% for reserved categories.
- Shortlisting based on: vacancies, research interest, interview performance.
- University reserves right to not fill vacant seats if suitable candidates not found, or increase seats if vacancy arises.
- Reservation as per prescribed norms (wherever applicable).
- Selected scholars must comply with Ph.D conditions; non-adherence leads to forfeiture.
- Compulsory attendance in Ph.D coursework classes; minimum 75% required to appear in examination.
