Gauhati University PhD Admission 2026-27 (Spring) notification is officially out. The Central Application Process (CAP) begins 27 February 2026. Candidates seeking admission to the PhD programme for the spring session (January 2026) must check eligibility, fellowship categories, and important dates below. International applicants, JRF holders, and professionals can apply under specific categories.

- Completing CAP does NOT guarantee admission. Final selection is based on counselling in the concerned department, subject to available seats.
- International students must contact the International Relations Wing (IRw) for facilitation.
- All applicants must apply through SAMARTH portal: https://gauhatiadmission.samarth.edu.in/index.php and pay the application fee online.
- JRF & Fellowship holders: CSIR/UGC-JRF, ICMR-JRF, DBT-JRF, GATE (valid score), INSPIRE, MoE fellowships. Project scholars without such awards are not eligible.

- Professional / Non‑academics with required qualifications and scholarly interests. They may seek admission in PG disciplines or interdisciplinary depts.
Applicants must go through Gauhati University Ph.D. Regulations, 2025.
General eligibility (Masters degree): Postgraduate degree from GU or UGC-recognized institute with ≥55% marks (or equivalent grade) in concerned/allied subject. SC/ST/OBC (NCL) / differently‑abled (≥40% disability) get 5% relaxation (≥50%). Relaxation as per Govt. of Assam rules.
4‑year bachelor’s degree (8 semesters) pathway: Minimum 75% aggregate or equivalent grade. Relaxation of 5% for SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/Differently‑Abled as per UGC/state rules.
Important: Candidates with valid GATE score must apply offline using prescribed forms from the Office of the Academic Registrar.
International Applicants – Additional Eligibility
- Masters from UGC-recognized foreign university (17 years of formal education: 12+3+2).
- Minimum 55% or equivalent grade in Masters.
- Proficiency in English (TOEFL/IELTS or prior English-medium education).
- DRC/FRC considers research proposal, reference letters, GRE scores.
For Medical Sciences, rules of MCI / Indian Nursing Council / Rehabilitation Council etc. shall be followed.
- ₹1500 per subject + bank transaction charges.
- For International Applicants, this fee will be returned.
- Payment must be made through online payment gateway only; without fee remittance the application is not considered.

The Department Research Committee (DRC) prepares the final list of selected candidates. This list is sent to the Academic Registrar’s office and then uploaded on the official website. Candidates must complete online admission from 25 to 27 March 2026.
Reservation for OBC, MOBC, SC, ST (P), ST (H), PWD and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) will be applicable as per University reservation policy.
