University of Lucknow (LU) PhD Admission 2026-27 notification has been released for admission to various Ph.D. programmes offered by the University of Lucknow. Candidates can apply for admission under Full-Time and Part-Time categories as per the Ph.D. Ordinance 2026. The admission process includes eligibility verification, entrance-based selection for eligible candidates, and subject-wise seat availability across multiple disciplines.

The University offers Ph.D. opportunities in Science, Arts, Commerce, Law, Education, Management, Engineering, Public Health, Journalism, Social Sciences and several other disciplines. Admission shall be governed by the provisions mentioned in the notification and Ph.D. Ordinance 2026.

  • Candidates with a Master's Degree and at least 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade are eligible.
  • A relaxation of 5% marks is available for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), Differently-Abled, EWS and other categories as per UGC norms.
  • Candidates applying after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor's Degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks or equivalent grade.
  • Students seeking admission into Ph.D. after a 4-year UG programme must have at least one publication in a peer-reviewed or refereed journal.
  • Equivalent qualifications from approved foreign educational institutions are also eligible.
Categories of Ph.D. Programme

Candidates can apply under the following categories:

  • Full-Time Research Scholar
  • Part-Time Research Scholar
  • International Research Scholar

Part-Time Research Scholar

  • Employed candidates with No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the employer.
  • Outstanding working professionals from Non-Government Organizations in their field of work.
Admission & Selection Process

The University shall admit Ph.D. students in three phases:

  1. Phase 1: Candidates qualified through UGC-JRF, CSIR-JRF, ICAR, ICMR, DBT-JRF, AICTE Doctoral Fellowship and similar fellowships.
  2. Phase 2: Candidates qualified through UGC-NET/CSIR-NET either for Assistant Professor or Ph.D. admission.
  3. Phase 3: Remaining seats shall be filled through Research Entrance Test (RET).

For Phase 3 admissions, final selection is based on:

  • 70% weightage to RET score.
  • 30% weightage to Interview/Viva-Voce performance.
Research Entrance Test (RET)
  • RET shall consist of 50% Research Methodology questions.
  • RET shall consist of 50% Subject-Specific questions.
  • General category candidates must secure at least 50% marks in RET.
  • Reserved category candidates must secure at least 45% marks in RET.
  • Qualified candidates will appear for Interview/Viva-Voce.
