For most subjects (except multidisciplinary):

  • 80% of the total intake is reserved for candidates who have passed their undergraduate degree from colleges affiliated to The University of Burdwan (BU graduates).
  • 20% of the total intake is reserved for candidates from other UGC‑recognised universities.

For Multidisciplinary Subjects (Biotechnology, Environmental Science, Geospatial Sciences, Library & Information Science, Women's Studies, Master of Social Work, MBA programmes):

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Eligibility for all PG programmes (Unreserved): 50% marks or equivalent grade "B" (CGPA 5.00) in the UG programme from any UGC‑recognised university.

For SC/ST/OBC‑NCL/DA/SP/EWS: Relaxation of 5% (i.e., 45% marks or CGPA 4.50).

For NEP 2020 UG Students

  • Category A: Major subject at UG level corresponding to the PG subject (at least 60 credits).
  • Category B: Minor subject at UG level with at least 12 credits corresponding to the PG subject.
  • Category C: Neither Major nor Minor – eligible only if they qualify in a National/University Level Entrance Examination (but entrance test is cancelled for this session; therefore, Category C may not be applicable).

Students must have completed the 3‑year UG programme under NEP 2020 or have exited after the third year of a 4‑year UG programme.

For CBCS / Older UGC Recognised Systems

  • Honours graduates in the corresponding subject are eligible.
  • For multidisciplinary subjects (Biotechnology, Environmental Science, Geospatial Sciences, Library & Information Science, Women's Studies, MSW, MBA), eligibility is defined as per the subject combinations given in the official brochures.

Important Update (Revised Notification): Candidates with Anthropology Honours/Major are now eligible for Life Science subjects under CBCS/older mode, and Anthropology Major (≥60 credits) or Minor (≥12 credits) under NEP 2020 are eligible for all Life Science subjects.

All provisionally selected candidates must produce final UG mark sheets at the time of document verification.

Selection Procedure (Revised)

Entrance Test Cancelled: As per the revised notification, the entrance test has been abandoned for the 2026‑28 session. Admissions will be based entirely on Grade Point (GP) calculated as follows:

  • GP = Percentage marks of the average of SGPAs from Semester‑I to Semester‑V (or percentage obtained in UG for pre‑CBCS candidates).
  • (Earlier the GP included admission test marks; now that test is cancelled, only UG marks will be considered.)

Merit List Preparation:

  • For subjects other than multidisciplinary, separate merit lists will be prepared for BU graduates (80% seats) and Other University graduates (20% seats).
  • For multidisciplinary subjects, a single merit list will be prepared for all eligible applicants.
  • In case of identical GP, tie‑breakers: (i) higher average of SGPAs up to Semester‑V, (ii) higher 12th marks, (iii) higher 10th marks, (iv) older candidate by date of birth.

Category‑wise Merit Order (for non‑multidisciplinary):

  1. Category A: UG Major/Honours corresponds to PG subject (≥60 credits).
  2. Category B: UG Minor (≥12 credits) corresponds to PG subject.
  3. Category C: Neither Major nor Minor – but since entrance test is cancelled, Category C may not be considered.

Admissions will be offered strictly in order of merit, subject to availability of seats and reservation norms.

The University will publish counselling notices and conduct online counselling via Google Form.
