Eligibility Criteria for AIIMS Delhi PhD Admission 2026
A. Medical Candidates
- MBBS/BDS with minimum 55% aggregate marks
- MD/MS/MDS/DM/M.Ch. in the subject concerned
- Diplomat of National Board of Examination
- Degrees must be from MCI/DCI recognized institutions
B. Nursing Candidates
- M.Sc. degree with minimum 55% aggregate marks in Nursing Speciality
C. Non-Medical Candidates
- Master’s Degree (two-year course) with at least 60% marks
- M.Sc. (except Nursing), M.Tech, BAMS, BHMS eligible
- Distance learning Master’s degrees are NOT eligible
- Specific degree requirements vary by department/project

Selection Process for AIIMS Delhi PhD Admission 2026
Three-Stage Selection Process:
- Stage I & II (Written Test – CBT):
- 70 MCQs (30 Aptitude + 40 Subject Specific)
- Minimum 35 marks required to qualify for Stage III
- Negative marking: -1/3 for wrong answers
- Special Weightage Marks:
- Medical/Dental/Nursing: 10 marks added if eligible for Stage III
- Non-Medical: 10 marks added for valid National Entrance Test fellowship
- Stage III (Departmental Assessment):
- 3 times candidates called as number of seats
- Clinical/Practical/Laboratory-based assessment (20 marks)
Final Merit & Seat Allocation:
- Candidates must secure minimum 50% marks in combined Stages I, II, III including special weightage
- All seats in a department are clubbed together
- Candidates can apply for maximum 3 departments
- Allocation based on merit order in entrance examination
- Candidates with Own Fellowship (OF) can choose from both FA and OF seats
- Candidates without fellowship can choose only FA seats
Tie-breaking Rule: In case of tie, older candidate (by date of birth) gets preference over younger candidate.
Course Duration & Regulations for AIIMS Delhi PhD 2026
- Minimum Duration: 3 years from registration to thesis submission
- Maximum Duration: 5 years (can be extended to 5.5 years in exceptional circumstances)
- Extension beyond 5 years: Maximum 6 months with Dean Committee approval
- Extension beyond 5.5 years: Only in highly exceptional circumstances (medical exigencies, natural calamities) with Academic Committee approval
- Cancellation: Registration cancelled if thesis not submitted within maximum period
Leaves Entitlement:
- 30 days leave per year
- Leave beyond 30 days treated as Extraordinary Leave (EOL)
- Maximum EOL: 3 months in entire 5-year registration period
- Maternity leave as per existing rules for female candidates
- Study leave for project work outside AIIMS: Maximum 6 months in entire registration
