General Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must satisfy the following general requirements to apply for the programme:

  • Possess a Master’s Degree of Anna University or any equivalent qualification in the fields of study notified by the University.
  • A minimum of 55% marks or a CGPA of 5.5 on a 10-point scale in the qualifying examination (PG degree).
  • For SC/ST/Person with Disability (with disability score more than 40%), the requirement is 50% marks or a CGPA of 5.0 on a 10-point scale.
  • PG Qualification (Engineering/Technology) acquired through distance mode/weekend mode/work integrated Programme is not eligible.

Mode of Selection (Anna University PhD Admission 2025-26)

The final selection for the Anna University PhD Admission 2025-26 is based on a combined score from a written test and an interview. The written test syllabus comprises 25% Research Methodology (Part I) and 75% Core Subject (Part II). The minimum qualifying mark for the written test is 50%.

The final merit list is prepared based on the marks secured in the Written Test (70% weightage) and the Interview (30% weightage). Candidates who have qualified in national-level examinations such as UGC-NET (including JRF), CSIR-NET (including JRF), GATE, or similar national-level fellowships are exempted from the University’s written examination. However, their marks from the national exam will be used in place of the University’s written test score for the final selection calculation.

The fees are divided into three components: Non-Refundable Registration Fee, One-time Admission Fees/Deposit, and Semester Fees.

Application Process & Document Submission

  1. Fill all relevant details in the online application form available on the University website.
  2. Obtain consent and approval from a recognized Supervisor/Joint Supervisor through the online portal.
  3. Remit the non-refundable application fee online to generate the PDF form of the application.
  4. Take a printout of the application and attach all required documents (PG marksheet, PG Degree, NOC/Experience, etc.).
  5. Submit the hard copy of the application form, along with all enclosures, to: The Director, Centre for Research, Anna University, Chennai – 600025 on or before the due date (08.11.2025).

Important Notes

ATTENTION: The application must have the consent of a recognized supervisor from a recognized research department; otherwise, it will be summarily rejected. PG qualifications in Engineering/Technology acquired through distance/weekend/work-integrated programs are **not eligible** for the Ph.D. programme. Candidates seeking admission under part-time mode must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer.
