Candidates who have completed their Post-Graduation till session 2025-26 are eligible to apply.

The Research Entrance Test (RET) 2026 will be conducted in the second week of September, and the admission process strictly follows the Ph.D. Ordinance 2024. Seat matrix as notified by Research and Development Cell, D.D.U.G.U. (subject to change).

• 2-year/4-semester Master’s degree or equivalent with at least 55% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade).
• Equivalent qualification from a foreign institution accredited by a recognised agency.
• Candidates who have completed M.Phil. with at least 55% marks (or equivalent grade) are also eligible.

Note: Relaxation of 5% marks (or equivalent grade) is allowed for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled (Divyang)/EWS categories as per UGC norms.

Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University (DDUGU) PhD Admission 2026-27 offers three categories:

• Full-time Research Scholar: Regular students; cannot accept paid assignments except fellowships. Teachers from DDUGU or affiliated colleges may receive salary.
• Part-time Research Scholar: Employed candidates with NOC; minimum 90 days residential period; no fellowship; requires 5 years of continuous senior-level experience.
• International Research Scholar: Supernumerary seats (up to 2 per supervisor); selection procedure as per university norms.

Full Time: Final selection based on 70% weightage in RET and 30% in interview. Candidates must secure at least 50% (General) or 45% (Reserved) in RET. The interview includes a presentation on research interests.

Part Time: Separate test with 70% weight to a 1000-word write-up and 30% to work experience, academic index, and interview.

The question paper consists of 70 multiple choice questions, each carrying 1 mark.

• University / Affiliated College Teachers: Regular teachers of DDUGU or its affiliated (Government/Aided) colleges are exempted from RET. They must apply with fee and are considered for 10% super-numeric seats.
• Foreign Nationals: Admitted through Embassy/High Commission or under MoU are exempted from RET and interview.

Minimum duration: 3 years (including course work). Maximum duration: 6 years from the date of admission (first fee receipt). Pre-PhD course work is mandatory for all categories.
