Eligibility Criteria for IIT Bhilai PhD Admission 2025-26

Basic Academic Qualification (Applicants must have ONE of the following):

1. Master’s degree in engineering/Technology with first class, 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST) or equivalent.
2. Bachelor’s degree in engineering/Technology with first class, 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST) or equivalent.
3. Master’s degree in science, arts, social sciences with first class 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST) or equivalent.
4. Bachelor’s degree in science (4 years) with first class, 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST) or equivalent.
5. M.Pharm with first class, 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST) or equivalent.
6. M.B.B.S or B.D.S with first class, 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST) or equivalent.

Additional Requirements (Applicants must also fulfil ONE of the following):

1. Valid GATE/GPAT score (Also refer to Table 1 below for department/discipline specific criteria).
2. Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of CSIR/ UGC/ NBHM/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR/DAE or DST INSPIRE Fellowship (Also refer to Table 1 below for department/ discipline specific criteria).
3. Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience.
4. Master’s degree in engineering/Technology with first class, 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST).
5. BTech from IIT with a CPI/CGPA of 8.0 or more.
6. NEET-PG, NEET-AIIMS (INI-CET), NEET-MDS scores as applicable (# Applicable for admission to PhD program in Bioscience and Biomedical Engineering only).

Department/Discipline Specific Criteria (Table 1) for IIT Bhilai PhD Admission 2025-26

Application Categories for PhD Admission

Applicants may apply for admission to the PhD program under only one of the following categories:

1. Institute Fellowship (A): Full-time scholar, required to be present on campus. Receives Institute Fellowship as per MoE, Govt. of India norms.
2. Sponsored Full-time (B): Awardee of a research fellowship (CSIR/UGC/DST INSPIRE, etc.) or sponsored by employer. Required full-time presence on campus. Applicant DOES NOT receive institute fellowship.
3. Sponsored Part-time (C): Professionally employed personnel (min. 2 years experience in the same organization). Organization must be within 75 Km radius of IIT Bhilai. Requires employer’s NOC for coursework relief. Applicant DOES NOT receive institute fellowship.
4. External Full-time (D) / External Part-time (E): Applicant working in a reputed industry/academic/research lab (min. 2 years experience) with R&D facilities. Research carried out at the employing organization. Requires employer’s NOC and a co-supervisor from the parent organization. Applicant DOES NOT receive institute fellowship.
5. Project Staff (F): Only candidates working on an externally funded project at IIT Bhilai with a remaining duration of at least one year. Requires NOC from Dean-R&D. Treated as part-time students initially. Applicant DOES NOT receive institute fellowship.

Application Process and Fee Structure

Application Fee:

Candidates who are applying for more than one PhD program need to apply and pay the application fee for each program separately.

Application Steps:

1. STEP-I: Apply OnlineCandidate must apply online from the IIT Bhilai website. A fresh registration is required for each Program. Applicant must fill all required information and upload documents.
2. STEP-II: Make PaymentPayment must be made through **State Bank Collect only**. Select category as “Educational Institutions” and search for “IIT BHILAI”. Select the payment category as “PhD Application Fee 2025-26-W Semester”. The candidate must clearly mention the Registration Id while filling-up the SBI collect challan for payment. Retain a copy of the sbi i-collect receipt.
3. STEP-III: Add Payment DetailsAfter the generation of the SBI Collect DU reference number (e.g., DU12345678), the applicant has to add the DU reference number to his/ her application.
4. STEP-IV: Application FinalizationFinalization of application is mandatory. Editing/modification/addition is not possible after finalization. Candidates should download the application and note the Application number.

Guidelines for PhD Applications

Applicants must read the instructions carefully before filling up the application form. There is **NO** need to send a hardcopy of the application forms.

• Separate application form is to be filled if applicants are applying in more than one department/discipline.
• Reservations are applicable as per Government of India rules for OBC-NCL/ SC/ ST/ PwD/ EWS category. Necessary supporting documents must be attached.
• Applicants should complete the application form in all respects. Incomplete application will not be considered.
• Mandatory Documents (Softcopy) to Upload:
  1. Photograph.
  2. Academic certificates (10th/12th, UG & PG certificates, etc.).
  3. Mark-sheet of all semesters/Consolidated mark-sheet of the qualifying degree. (Result awaited applicants upload latest/previous semester mark-sheet).
  4. Caste certificate (OBC-NCL/SC/ST), if applicable.
  5. Experience certificate and any other relevant documents.
• Applicants MUST provide the details of at least two well acquainted people who can provide reference letters. At least one must be an academician who has taught the applicant.
• Applicants having a degree from foreign universities should upload an equivalence certificate from AIU, New Delhi.
• Applicants called for written test/interview should bring Photo ID Card, Printed copy of the application, Thesis / dissertation / report / publications, All Original certificates and mark-sheets, and Call letters.
