The IIT Goa PhD Admission 2025-26 notification for the Spring Semester has been officially released. The Indian Institute of Technology Goa (IIT Goa) invites applications from highly motivated candidates for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs. This brochure details the eligibility criteria, application categories, schedule, and areas of specialization for admission. Eligibility Criteria for IIT Goa PhD Admission 2025-26
Full-time PhD Program: Basic Requirements
Applicants must possess one of the following in the appropriate subject areas:
- Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent with 60% marks or CPI 6/10 (55% or CPI 5.5/10 for SC/ST).
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent with 70% marks or CPI 7/10 (65% or CPI 6.5/10 for SC/ST).
- Master’s degree in science, arts, social sciences, or equivalent with 60% marks or CPI 6/10 (55% or CPI 5.5/10 for SC/ST).
- 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree in science or equivalent with 70% marks or CPI 7/10 (65% or CPI 6.5/10 for SC/ST).
Full-time PhD Program: Additional Requirements
Applicants must also fulfill one of the following stream-specific additional requirements:
- For Engineering Stream: Qualified GATE, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of CSIR/UGC/NBHM/DBT/ICAR/ICMR/ICPR, B.Tech/Dual degree from IIT with CPI/CGPA of 8.0 or more, or Minimum of 2 years of professional experience (applicable to B.Tech/B.E./B.S./MCA/M.Sc. candidates).
- For Science Stream: Qualified GATE/CSIR/UGC-NET/JEST, or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of CSIR/UGC/NBHM/DBT/ICAR/ICMR/ICPR, etc.
- For Humanities and Social Science Stream (Economics): Qualified UGC-NET/GATE in Economics, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of UGC in Economics, or Candidates with at least 70% marks in their Master’s degree (65% for SC/ST) in Economics (Non-UGC-NET/GATE Candidates).
Part-time PhD Program: Basic and Work Experience Requirements
Applicants must have ONE of the following in the appropriate subject areas along with relevant work experience:
- Master’s Degree in Sci/Eng/Tech or equivalent with 60% marks (55% for SC/ST) AND a minimum of two (02) years of work experience at the time of application.
- Bachelor’s degree in Sci/Eng/Tech or equivalent with 60% marks (55% for SC/ST) AND a minimum of four (04) years of work experience at the time of application.
- Master’s degree from IIT/IISER/IIIT/IISc/NIT with 60% marks (55% for SC/ST) AND a minimum of one (01) year of work experience at the time of application.
- Bachelor’s degree from IIT/IISER/IIIT/IISc/NIT with 80% marks (75% for SC/ST) AND a minimum of one (01) year of work experience at the time of application.
Application Categories for IIT Goa PhD Admission 2025-26
Full-time or Regular PhD Program
The following categories are available for the full-time program, which primarily receives financial assistance:
- Teaching Assistantship (TA): Students receive a fellowship from the institute as per Ministry of Education guidelines.
- TA through Project (TAP): Students get fellowship from a research project with partial support from the institute.
- Govt./Semi Govt. Fellowship Awards (JRF): Students having their own fellowship like CSIR-JRF, UGC-JRF, etc.
Part-Time PhD Program
A student in this category is a professionally employed person who pursues the PhD while continuing their duties. The institute does not provide any assistance/fellowship in this category. Categories include:
- External: Students employed in R&D organizations, academic institutions, or industry with adequate research facilities.
- Permanent employees from state or central government universities, colleges, or research institutes and labs.
- Self-sponsored.
- Permanent staff of IIT Goa.

Application Fee Payment for IIT Goa PhD Admission 2025-26
The application fee is non-refundable and must be paid through NEFT/RTGS/UPI before submitting the online form. Candidates are required to enter a valid UTR/Transaction Number and date in the online application form.

How to Apply for the IIT Goa PhD Admission 2025-26
Candidates are required to apply online only via the official online application portal. No downloadable forms are available. Follow the steps below:
- For New Registration, click on New User Registration.
- Register with your valid email ID.
- Fill out the program applying for (fill out separate applications for different programs).
- Click on submit, and you will be redirected to the login page.
- Login to the portal.
- Candidates are required to fill in details as given in the form and save the form.
- Upload a recent Passport Photograph (Max 200KB), scanned copy of Signature (Max 12KB), detailed CV, and Mark sheets as per eligibility (Max 400KB), and applicable documents (Appendix A or Appendix B, if applicable).
- Fill in the payment details carefully (UTR/Transaction Number and date); once filled, it cannot be edited.
- After filling in all the details, Preview and Submit your application form.
