Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) PhD Admission 2026 (July) notification has been released for admission to the Ph.D. Programme for the Autumn Semester 2026-27. Applications are invited from motivated Indian citizens under various categories including Regular, Sponsored, Working Professionals, Project Category, QIP, and Individual Fellowship categories in multiple Engineering, Technology, and Science disciplines.

Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE), Visakhapatnam, was established in 2016 under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG). The Institute was declared an Institution of National Importance through the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy Act, 2017.

IIPE focuses on advanced research in emerging energy sectors including shale gas, coal bed methane, gas hydrates, renewable energy, conventional energy resources, storage technologies, and downstream oil & gas activities. The institute maintains strong collaborations with industries and international institutions for research, consultancy, faculty exchange, student exchange, internships, and joint research initiatives.

The Institute provides facilities for research leading to the award of the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. The award is based on:

• Successful completion of prescribed coursework, comprehensive examination and seminar.
• Publication of original research work in reputed journals/conferences or patents/technology transfer.
• Submission of thesis and successful final viva voce examination.

The minimum marks required for eligibility are considered without any round-off.

The Institute Research Fellowship is available for eligible candidates under the Regular category.

The fellowship is awarded for a maximum period of five years subject to institute regulations.

• PhD through Sponsored Research Project

Each category has specific eligibility requirements regarding employment status, fellowships, experience, sponsorship, and supervisor arrangements.

Admission to the PhD programme is recommended by the Institute Academic Committee (IAC) based on:

• Overall Academic Performance
• Written / Computer-Based Test
• Interview
• Or a combination of Test and Interview

Application fee is non-refundable and must be paid online through Net Banking, Credit Card, or Debit Card.

• Refundable Fees: Institution Caution Money, Hostel Caution Money, Library Caution Money.
• Non-Refundable Fees: Hostel Admission, Student Welfare Fund, Training & Placement Fee, Statutory Fee, Alumni Subscription, Modernisation Fee.
• Annual Fees: Medical Insurance Premium and Student Brotherhood Fund.
• Semester Fees: Tuition Fee, Registration Fee, Examination Fee, Laboratory Fee, Internet Connectivity, Electricity & Water Charges, Institute Development Fund and related charges.
• 100% Tuition Fee Waiver is available for SC/ST/PwD students.

Fee structure is subject to revision by the institute from time to time.
