The Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB) PhD Admission 2025-26 has released its notification for the Ph.D. Program for Semester 2, 2025-2026. This is a tremendous opportunity for candidates seeking advanced research experience in the frontier areas of interdisciplinary Life Sciences. IBAB is an autonomous Institution established in 2001 by the Department of Electronics, IT, BT and S&T of the Government of Karnataka. Over the past two decades, the Institute has evolved into a world-class center, known for its cutting-edge research and educational programs in Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, and Big Data Biology. The institute has established excellent facilities in both computational and experimental Life Sciences, housing state-of-the-art computing infrastructure including Graphical Processing Units (GPU) servers, high-end workstations, and high-capacity network and storage facilities besides well-equipped state-of-the-art bioscience laboratories for experimental work. The Institute has highly qualified faculty with international experience, ensuring a high standard of research and training for its Ph.D. and Post-Doctoral programs.

Eligibility Criteria for Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB) PhD Admission 2025-26

The Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB) PhD Admission 2025-26 requires candidates to meet one of the following criteria:

  • Master’s Degree: Master’s degree (2 years) in any branch of Life Sciences/ Biotechnology/Bioengineering/ Bioinformatics/ Computational Biology/ Computer Science and Engineering / Pharmacy /Medicine /Physics/Chemistry with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
  • B.Tech./B.E. Degree: B.Tech./ B.E or equivalent (4 years) in any branch of Science/Technology with 75% marks or equivalent.

Selection Procedure

The selection process for the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB) PhD Admission 2025-26 is rigorous and two-fold:

  1. Offline Entrance Exam: A National level offline entrance exam will be conducted at IBAB, Bangalore on December 4, 2025 (forenoon).
  2. Interview: Results of the entrance exam will be announced on the same day. Shortlisted candidates will proceed to the in-person interviews on December 4-5, 2025.

Stipend and Fellowship

IBAB offers competitive financial support, though candidates with existing national fellowships are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • IBAB strongly encourages students with their own fellowships (CSIR-UGC, DST-INSPIRE, DBT-JRF, and ICMR-JRF) to apply to the Ph.D. program.
  • Institute Assistantship: Exceptional candidates without a personal fellowship or a valid GATE score shall be provided with a competitive assistantship directly by the Institute.

Important Note (Travel Reimbursement)

Travel Reimbursement: The Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB) PhD Admission 2025-26 offers reimbursement for travel to outstation candidates (non-Bengaluru) who are shortlisted for the in-person written test/interview at the IBAB campus.

  • Reimbursement covers: Train-Sleeper Class (SL) or Public Bus fare by the shortest route, whichever is cheapest.
  • Proof of travel must be furnished.
  • If a candidate chooses a different mode (e.g., 3AC, air), they will only be reimbursed the Train-Sleeper Class or Public Transport Bus fare by the shortest route.
