J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad (formerly YMCA University of Science and Technology) was established in 2009 vide Haryana Government Gazette Notification No. 29 of 2009, dated 16.9.2009 (Haryana Act No. 21 of 2009). The institution began as the YMCA Institute of Engineering, Faridabad, founded in the year 1969 as a Joint Venture of the Government of Haryana and the National Council of YMCAs of India with active assistance from overseas agencies of West Germany to produce highly practical oriented personnel in specialized fields of engineering to meet specific technical manpower requirement of industries.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria for JC Bose University PhD Admission
Candidates must fulfill one of the following minimum eligibility conditions:
- Master’s Degree (Traditional): A 1-year/2-semester Master’s degree after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s, OR a 2-year/4-semester Master’s degree after a 3-year Bachelor’s, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade.
- 4-Year Bachelor’s Degree (Direct Entry): A 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree program with a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade.
- M.Phil. Graduates: Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. Program with at least 55% marks in aggregate.
- Foreign Qualifications: Equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an approved statutory authority. The equivalence of the degree will be decided by the Board of Studies (BOS) of the concerned department.
Relaxation: A relaxation of 5% marks (i.e., 50% for Master’s/M.Phil. or 70% for 4-year Bachelor’s) is allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer), Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and other reserved categories as per UGC/Commission decisions.
Current Session Candidates: Those who appeared in the regular Master’s level examination in the current session may also appear in the entrance test, but they must submit proof of passing before admission to the Pre-Ph.D. course.
Course Work: A candidate provisionally registered for Ph.D. is required to attend classes for one semester for a Pre-Ph.D. course work. The state reservation policy shall be followed in Ph.D. Admission.

Procedure for Admission and Selection Criteria
The admission process adheres to the criteria notified by the University, following UGC guidelines and the Haryana State Government reservation policy.
Admission Methods
- Direct Admission (Exemption from Entrance Test): Students who qualify for fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET (Category 1, 2, 3), UGC-CSIR NET, GATE, and similar National level tests will be admitted directly.
- Admission through Entrance Test: All other candidates must take the University Entrance Test. The test syllabus consists of 50% Research Methodology (Section-A) and 50% Specific Subject (Section-B). (The syllabus details are provided in Annexure-I of the prospectus).
Merit List Preparation Criteria (For Admission and Scholarship)
The merit list for admission is prepared based on the following combined criteria:

*Where CGPA is awarded, the Percentage of marks = 9.5 x CGPA. The 70% entrance marks are calculated on the percentile basis, where the candidate having the maximum marks in the entrance will be given 70 marks.
Categories of Scholars and University Scholarships
The Ph.D. program admits scholars under the following five categories:
- A research scholar getting a scholarship (URS) from the University.
- A research scholar receiving fellowship / scholarship from outside organizations such as CSIR, UGC, QIP, DST, AICTE etc..
- A research scholar receiving fellowship / scholarship under MoU between the University and industry.
- A scholar who does not receive financial help like scholarship/assistantship from the university or from any other source during his/her Ph.D. program.
- Industry-sponsored candidates.
University Research Scholarship (URS) and Fellowship
- URS: Four University Research Scholarships (URS) of Rs. 25,000/- each will be awarded as per University rules.
- MRF: One MOB research fellowship (MRF) of Rs. 31,000/- + HRA will be awarded to the engineering stream only as per University rules.
- Candidates awarded a fellowship by the University/outside agency must stay at the University headquarter for the whole duration and will be registered in full-time mode.
Leave Rules for Research Scholars
Leave for a maximum of 15 days in a year in addition to general holidays may be allowed by the Chairperson of the Department on the supervisor’s recommendation. The scholar is not entitled to any vacations, and no other leave with scholarship is admissible.

General Information and Important Notes
- **JC Bose University PhD Admission 2025-26** prospectus is for the regular Ph.D. program (Full-Time & Part-Time mode).
- The online application form must be duly completed and submitted along with all required enclosures by the last date; no application will be entertained thereafter.
- The candidate who doesn’t deposit the application fee shall not be considered for the admission process.
- Cancellation/Forfeiture: Furnishing false particulars or suppressing material information will lead to admission cancellation and forfeiture of all fees deposited.
- Fee Refund: Fee once paid (application fee or course fee) will not be refunded.
- The number of Ph.D. seats mentioned (475 total) may increase or decrease in any of the departments.
- The university may not fill available seats if a candidate’s specialization/choice does not match the requirement or if the candidate is reported as ‘Not Found Suitable’ during the interview, even if eligible.
- Hostel Facility: Very limited hostel facilities are available for girls (subject to availability). No hostel facilities for boys are available.
- In the case of any inconsistencies in the rules, the matter shall be referred to the competent authority for final interpretation.
