NISER Bhubaneswar PhD Admission 2025-26: Winter Session Announcement
The National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar, invites online applications from Indian citizens for admission to its Ph.D. programme for the NISER Bhubaneswar PhD Admission 2025-26 Winter Session. The programme is scheduled to commence in January 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for candidates interested in advanced research across various scientific disciplines.
Candidates intending to apply for more than one school must fill out separate online application forms for each school, including the appropriate supporting documents. Importantly, NISER does not charge any application fee from the candidates for the Ph.D. programme. Successful submission of the online application is entirely the candidate’s responsibility.

- Candidates who are appearing for their final examination for the qualifying Degree can also apply, provided they submit an undertaking that they will submit the qualifying degree certificates by the time of admission.
- Candidates with GPA/CGPA in a qualifying degree will be required to produce supporting documents from their respective University/Institute specifying the conversion into percentage.
National Level Examination Requirement for NISER Bhubaneswar PhD Admission 2025-26
Candidates must have qualified in at least one of the specified National Level Examinations, valid for the academic year 2025-2026, for their respective school:
- School of Biological Sciences: CSIR-UGC-NET / GATE / GPAT / DBT-BET / ICMR / JGEEBILS-2025.
- School of Chemical Sciences: CSIR-UGC NET / GATE.
- School of Computer Sciences: CSIR-UGC-NET / GATE / JEST / TIFR-GS.
- School of Earth and Planetary Sciences: CSIR-UGC-NET / GATE / JEST.
- School of Mathematical Sciences: CSIR-UGC-NET (JRF only) / GATE / NBHM* or any other equivalent national level examination.
- School of Physical Sciences: CSIR-UGC-NET / GATE / JEST.
- Students holding only the INSPIRE Doctoral Fellowship will NOT be considered for admission without qualifying any of the above national level written examinations.
- The respective School will decide the cut-off marks for national examinations like GATE/JEST/JGEEBILS/CSIR-UGC-NET.
- *For NBHM, qualification is achieved by receiving a call letter for the PhD fellowship 2025 interview (irrespective of final selection).
Fellowship Details
Selected candidates will receive a competitive fellowship:
- 37,000/- as Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for the first two years.
- Subsequently, 42,000/- per month for a maximum period up to another three years as Senior Research Fellowship (SRF), subject to academic requirements.

Selection Procedure
- Shortlisting: The selection committee of the respective schools will shortlist candidates from the applications received by the deadline. Merely satisfying the minimum qualifications does not guarantee shortlisting.
- Test/Interview: The short-listed candidates will be called for an interview, which may be supplemented by a written test, if deemed necessary for admission.
- Final Admission: Based on the academic record and the performance of the candidates in the selection process, the selection committee will recommend candidates for admission.
- Travel Reimbursement: All eligible candidates called for the Test/Interview will be reimbursed return travel fare equivalent to the second-sleeper class railway fare by the shortest route, upon production of valid documents.

Successful submission is entirely the candidate’s responsibility; NISER will not bear any liability for incomplete applications or non-submission of supporting documents.

During online submission, you will need to have the following ready with you for uploading:
- JPEG file of your passport size photo.
- JPEG file of your valid signature.
- Birth Certificate / 10th pass certificate in support of date of birth.
- Certificate and mark sheets supporting the passing of qualifying examinations (Master’s degree OR 4-Year / 8-Semester Bachelor’s degree, whichever is applicable). A provisional certificate should be submitted if the original is not yet issued.
- Certificate / document proving qualification in the national level examination(s) (e.g., CSIR-UGC NET JRF/DBT-BET JRF/JEST/NBHM/GATE or as applicable).
