Introduction to NIT Kurukshetra PhD Admission 2025-26
The NIT Kurukshetra PhD Admission 2025-26 notification is out for the Even Semester. National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra (NITKKR), an Institution of National Importance, is inviting applications from Indian and foreign nationals for its Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme. The admission process is regulated by the norms approved by the Senate and is applicable to various classifications of research scholars, including Full-time, Part-time, Self-financed, and Fellowship/Scholarship Awardees. The Institute reserves the right for admission under the Self-financed category. The degrees obtained through distance education programs shall not be considered for eligibility.

Classification of Research Scholars (R-1)
The research scholars for the NIT Kurukshetra PhD Admission 2025-26 are classified based on four criteria:
- On the basis of time devoted to the Ph.D. programme:
- Full-time
- Part-time
- On the basis of occupation:
- Teacher
- Non-Teacher (including officer cadre of any Institute/Department, Organization)
- Project staff (Ph.D. research domain must be related to the project work at NITKKR)
- On the basis of country:
- Indian (holding valid Indian citizenship)
- Foreigner (admitted through Embassy/MoU, with GoI approvals)
- On the basis of financial assistance (Refer to R-17 as well):
- Self-financed (does not receive financial support from Institute or any other source)
- Fellowship / Scholarship Awardees (Institute fellowship, CSIR/UGC/DOE/DST/DBT/NBHM/INSPIRE, ICCR, R&D project at NITKKR, or private entity/trust)
Minimum Eligibility Criteria (R-2.1) for NIT Kurukshetra PhD Admission 2025-26
To be eligible for the NIT Kurukshetra PhD Admission 2025-26 programme, candidates must meet the educational qualifications and minimum marks criteria:
General Educational Qualifications Note:
- The qualifying degrees must be recognized by AICTE/UGC. Degrees obtained through distance education shall not be considered.
- Only the primary mode of evaluation (CGPA or percentage) mentioned in the degree certificate/mark sheet will be considered. Conversions are not accepted.
- For SC/ST/PwD candidates, the eligibility requirement of marks/CGPA will be relaxed by 5% or 0.5 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) at both the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels.
Minimum Qualification (Either A or B):
- Master’s Degree Route:
- Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology/Sciences/Humanities and Social Sciences/Management in respective discipline or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale or 60% marks in aggregate.
- AND A full-time Bachelor’s Degree in respective discipline or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale or 60% marks in aggregate.
- Bachelor’s Degree Route (Direct Admission):
- Full-time Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent with a minimum of 80% marks in aggregate or 8.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale or equivalent.
Additional Eligibility for Part-time Ph.D. Programme (R-2.2 & R-2.3)
Candidates applying for the Part-time NIT Kurukshetra PhD Admission 2025-26 must be regular employees of one of the following organizations and have a minimum experience of one year (counted from the date of joining to the last date of application). They must also meet the same minimum qualification as Full-time candidates.
- R&D Organizations/Industries, National Laboratories, Government Organizations, Industries, PSUs, State Undertakings having MOU with NITKKR.
- Regular Employees of NITKKR working in any Department, Centre, Section, or Cell.
- Regular Employees of Educational Institutions fully funded by Government or Government Aided Colleges/Institutes or maintained in the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
- Regular Employees working in Government Organizations/Industries that do not have MOU with NITKKR.
- Regular Faculty of Private Academic Institutes having sufficient facilities to carry out research at their place in the related research area.
No Objection Certificate (NOC):
All Part-time candidates must submit a “No Objection Certificate” on the letterhead from the appropriate authority in their organization, clearly stating:
- Permission to pursue Ph.D. research work on a part-time basis.
- Official duties permit the candidate to devote sufficient time for research work.
- Leave will be sanctioned for sufficient duration for research work if facilities are unavailable at the organization.
- Services with the organization will be retained during the course work and research period at NITKKR.
Admission Process & Selection Procedure
The selection process for all categories (full- and part-time) is uniform and involves several steps:
- Scrutiny of Applications: Applications are scrutinized by a committee constituted by the HoD of the concerned Department.
- Written Test: All eligible candidates who are not exempted (see next section) must appear in an objective type (MCQ) written test of PG level, conducted by the respective Department DRC (Admission Committee).
- Paper-I (Common to all Depts.): Analytical skills, Reasoning, Aptitude (30 marks; 30 minutes)
- Paper-II: Area of Research/Specialization (40 marks; 40 minutes)
- Presentation and Interview: Shortlisted candidates (based on written test performance) or exempted candidates must appear before the Departmental Research Committee (DRC) for a brief power point presentation on the related research area, followed by an interview.
- Evaluation: The DRC evaluates candidates and awards marks out of 30 (10 marks each for Presentation, Interview, and Academic Achievements).
- Qualifying Marks: The qualifying marks will be 40% (Written + Interview). Relaxation is applicable as per the latest Govt. of India norms.
- **Merit List:** The merit list is prepared based on the total score out of 100 (for non-exempted) or out of 100 (for exempted). In case of a tie, the following criteria are used in order of preference:
- Performance of the candidate in written test (if not exempted)
- Percentage of marks in qualifying degree
- Percentage of marks in undergraduate degree
- Percentage of marks in 10+2
- Percentage of marks in 10th
- Seniority as per Date of Birth
Exemption from Written (Entrance) Test (R-3.1)
The following categories of candidates for the NIT Kurukshetra PhD Admission 2025-26 are exempted from the written entrance test. However, they must still appear before the DRC for presentation and interview.
Part-time Candidates:
- Regular employees of R&D Organizations, National Laboratories, Public/Private Industries/PSUs/ State Undertakings having an MoU with NITKKR and possessing First Division or 6.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale or equivalent at M.Tech./PG level with minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
- Regular employees of NITKKR.
- Candidate with GATE qualified (any passing year) / valid NET-LS or JRF from UGC, CSIR etc.
Full-time with Institute Fellowship:
- Candidate with GATE qualified (any passing year) / valid NET-LS or JRF from UGC, CSIR etc. (Note: Only GATE-NET qualified candidates can apply against full time Institute Scholarship seats.)
Full-time with Fellowship / Scholarship from some external funding agency:
- Candidate with GATE (valid score) / valid NET-LS or JRF from UGC, CSIR, etc.

*Note: Applications are also invited for Part-Time Ph.D. seats, Visvesvaraya Fellowship Scheme, Full-Time Ph.D. seats on CSIR-UGC-JRF etc. fellowship scheme or under any Full-Time Ph.D. seats in project fellowship. These seats are variable depending on the availability of supervisors’ slots.
How to Apply & Application Fee
For the NIT Kurukshetra PhD Admission 2025-26, all applicants must apply through the online portal only.

- Applicants must upload the duly filled hard copy of the application form in the online Google Form.
- An applicant can choose only 1 department/school in one application.
- Online applications once submitted are considered final and binding; corrections will not be entertained.
Application Fee:
- OC/GEN-EWS/OBC-NCL applicants: Rs. 1000/- per department.
- SC/ST/PwD applicants: Rs. 500/- per department.
Important Note on Fee:
The application fee is non-refundable.
The fee payment (for one or more departments) must be made through State Bank i-collect mode only.
Last Date for Payment: November 24, 2025 (5:00 pm).

Documents Required (Self-Attested Photocopies):
- Matriculation (10th) Certificate.
- Intermediate (12th)/Diploma Certificate.
- Bachelor’s Degree Certificate and Marks Sheet.
- Master’s Degree Certificate and Marks Sheet.
- GATE Score Card (any passing year) / valid CSIR-UGC-NET-JRF Certificate/Score Card.
- Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe / OBC (NCL)/ Gen-EWS/PwD certificate (OBC (NCL) & Gen-EWS Certificate must be issued on or after April 01, 2025).
- NOC from the employer (in case of Part-time Candidates).
- Experience Certificate (for Part-time Candidates).
Crucial Document Deadline:
The last date for completion of minimum educational eligibility criteria and all other documents/certificates will be the date of the DRC/SRC interview.
