General Academic Eligibility
- A 1-year/2-semester Master's degree after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor's degree programme, or a 2-year/4-semester Master's degree after a 3-year/6-semester Bachelor's degree programme, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade.
- A candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor's degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade.
- The qualifying degree should be in the relevant discipline as prescribed for the Ph.D. subject.
- The qualification must be from a recognised university/institution as applicable under the prescribed rules.
- A 5% relaxation in marks or equivalent grade may be allowed for SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), Differently-Abled, EWS and other categories as per the applicable decision of the Commission.
- The percentage of marks obtained shall not be rounded off to the next higher integer.
Applicants must satisfy all applicable eligibility requirements before submitting the application. Meeting the minimum qualification alone does not automatically confer a right to admission.
For University of Allahabad PhD Admission 2026-27, applicants other than the categories specifically exempted under the brochure are required to satisfy the prescribed qualifying examination requirements.

Exempted Categories
The brochure includes regular teachers of the University of Allahabad and its Constituent Colleges, eligible Armed Forces officers, International Applicants, eligible Part-Time Ph.D. applicants and Project Fellows working in externally funded research projects among the exempted categories, subject to the prescribed conditions.
