GATE 2027 Overview

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 is one of India's most prestigious national-level entrance examinations for admission to postgraduate programmes such as M.E., M.Tech., M.Arch., Ph.D., and direct doctoral programmes in Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture, Humanities, Commerce, and related disciplines. GATE 2027 Eligibility Criteria

Before submitting the GATE 2027 application form, candidates must ensure that they satisfy the eligibility criteria prescribed by IIT Madras. GATE 2027 is open to students from Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, and Humanities backgrounds who are pursuing or have completed an eligible degree programme. There is no age limit and no restriction on the number of attempts.

Who Can Apply for GATE 2027?
  • Students currently studying in the 3rd year or higher of any approved undergraduate degree programme.
  • Candidates who have already completed a government-approved Bachelor's degree.
  • Candidates from Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts and Humanities disciplines.
  • Candidates pursuing or having completed higher qualifications such as Master's degrees are also eligible.
  • Candidates who obtained or are pursuing qualifying degrees outside India are also eligible, subject to the prescribed conditions.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must be studying in the third year or above of an eligible undergraduate programme or must have already completed a recognised Bachelor's degree. Students from B.E., B.Tech., B.Arch., B.Plan., B.Sc., B.A., B.Com., M.Sc., Integrated Master's programmes and several other approved qualifications can apply, provided they satisfy the official eligibility requirements.

Age Limit

There is no minimum or maximum age limit for appearing in GATE 2027. Candidates of any age who satisfy the educational eligibility criteria may apply.

Good News: Unlike many competitive examinations, GATE 2027 has no upper age limit, allowing candidates to attempt the examination at any stage of their academic or professional career.

Number of Attempts

There is no limit on the number of times a candidate may appear for the GATE examination. Candidates may take GATE as many times as they wish, provided they continue to satisfy the eligibility requirements.

Professional Society Qualifications

Candidates possessing qualifications awarded by recognised professional societies, such as IE(I), ICE, IETE, AeSI, IIChE, IIM and IIIE, may also be eligible if their qualifications are recognised as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch./B.Plan. by the competent authorities.

Important: Merely satisfying the GATE eligibility criteria does not guarantee admission into any institute or recruitment by any PSU. Individual institutes and recruiting organisations may prescribe additional eligibility requirements during admission or recruitment.

GATE 2027 Exam Pattern

GATE 2027 will be conducted as a Computer-Based Test (CBT). The examination will be held in English only and will have a duration of 3 hours. Candidates will answer a total of 65 questions carrying 100 marks. The paper consists of General Aptitude and subject-specific questions designed to evaluate candidates' conceptual understanding, analytical ability, problem-solving skills, and application of engineering or science fundamentals.

Exam Day Guidelines

  • Carry a printed copy of the Admit Card.
  • Carry the original valid Photo Identity Proof.

Validity of GATE Score
