Highlights of IIT Gandhinagar PhD Admission 2025-26

Eligibility Criteria
- A minimum of **55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PWD)** or **5.5 CPI (5.0 CPI for SC/ST/PWD)** in a postgraduate or 4-year bachelor’s degree program in appropriate branches is required.
- The eligibility criteria mentioned above are minimum at the institute level; departments may have higher cut-off levels for shortlisting.
- Candidates from SC/ST/PWD categories are eligible for relaxations in the selection criteria as per norms.
Important Note: Merely meeting the minimum eligibility criteria will not guarantee shortlisting or admission.

| Continuing Doctoral Programme (CDP) | Candidates admitted under this category can directly join the PhD programme. Residency is required for offline coursework, and candidates are encouraged to spend at least two weeks every semester at IITGN. Curricular requirements are the same as the regular PhD programme. |
Financial Support and Fellowships for IIT Gandhinagar PhD Admission 2025-26
Students joining the Ph.D. program as regulars (RR) may be considered for the Institute Fellowship, subject to the availability of funds.Monthly Fellowship of Rs. 37,000/-
Candidates with qualifications in any of the following are eligible for this monthly fellowship:- Postgraduate Degree in Basic Science with NET/GATE Qualification.
- Graduate Degree in Professional Courses (B.Tech/B.E.) with NET/GATE Qualification.
- Postgraduate Degree in Professional Courses (M.Tech/M.E. etc).
- B.Tech degree from a CFTI with at least 8.0 CPI (on a scale of 10).
- MSc/MA from IITs with at least 8.0 CPI (on a scale of 10).
- BS from IISc with at least 6.4 CPI (on a scale of 8).
- BS-MS from IISERs with at least 8.0 CPI (on a scale of 10).
- BS from IISERs with at least 8.0 CPI (on a scale of 10).
Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF)
The PMRF Scheme is designed to improve the quality of research in higher educational institutions by attracting the best talent with attractive fellowships. Institutions that can offer PMRF include all IITs, all IISERs, the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, and some of the top Central Universities/NITs that offer science and/or technology degrees. Admission is generally based on an interview, which may be supplemented by a written test if necessary. A limited number of candidates will be invited for a written test and/or interview based on academic records and statement of purpose. The final selection is based mainly on academic credentials, written test, and/or interview. The mode (offline/online) and dates will be communicated to shortlisted candidates by their respective departments.Application Procedure
- All applications must be submitted online.
- If applying for more than one discipline, submit a separate application for each one.
- After successful submission, you will receive an application number and a link to download the application form.
- You need to furnish a hard copy of the application form and self-attested copies of all relevant documents at the time of the interview. Incomplete applications will be rejected.
- The application fee is Rs. 150/- for SC/ST/PD Category and Rs. 300/- for Others.
- You DO NOT need to send a hard copy of the application form.
