Introduction
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) invites online applications for admission to Ph.D. programmes for the July 2025 session under distance mode. Applications are open for various disciplines with a choice of full-time or part-time research formats.

Eligibility Criteria
- Master’s degree with minimum 55% marks (5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS).
- OR M.Phil. degree from a recognized university.
- 4-year Bachelor’s degree holders need at least 75% marks.
- Discipline-specific eligibility also applies as per Appendix I.
Application Process
- Visit ignouadm.samarth.edu.in/phd.
- Register and complete the online application form.
- Upload necessary documents and pay the ₹1000 non-refundable fee.
- Download a copy of the submitted form for reference.
Selection Procedure
- UGC NET qualified candidates (with or without JRF) are eligible.
- Category A (With JRF): Direct interview (100% weightage).
- Category B (Without JRF): 70% NET Score + 30% Interview.
- Interview includes: Research Methodology (40%), Subject Knowledge (40%), Communication (20%).
Course Duration & Mode
- Minimum: 3 years | Maximum: 6 years.
- Women & PwD candidates get 2 extra years.
- Distance learning mode with mandatory 6-month coursework in New Delhi.
- Minimum 80% attendance is required during coursework.

Important Notes:
- Only one discipline can be applied for.
- Applicants must meet both general and discipline-specific eligibility.
- Coursework is conducted in-person at IGNOU HQ, Delhi.
- No hostel facility available; students must arrange accommodation.
- Part-time candidates must submit NOC from employer (Annexure IV).
- Reservation policy as per Government of India norms.
