Introduction
Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D. Programme in Political Science, 2025 at the Department of Political Science, University of Calcutta. The admission will follow the University of Calcutta Ph.D. Regulations 2016. The number of vacant seats is not more than 10, and admission shall be made following the West Bengal State Higher Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Rules, 2013.

Eligibility Criteria
- Master’s degree in Political Science or equivalent with at least 55% marks or grade ‘B’ in UGC 7-point scale.
- 5% relaxation for SC / ST / OBC / differently-abled and other categories as per UGC norms.
- Candidates applying in a subject other than their qualifying degree must seek endorsement from the Ph.D. Research Advisory Committee.
- Candidates with qualifying degrees from other Universities will be admitted after equivalence determination by the University of Calcutta.
Admission Procedure
- Written Entrance Test (50 Marks, 2 Hours): 25 MCQs (1 mark each) + Short essay (25 marks). Qualifying marks: 50% (General), 45% (OBC-A&B), 40% (SC/ST).
- Syllabus: Standard PG level Political Science.
- Interview (50 Marks): For NET/SET/M.Phil. qualified candidates or those qualifying the entrance test. Research proposal (max 500 words) required at interview.
- Final Selection: Based on interview performance, as per University of Calcutta Ph.D. Regulations 2016.
- Venue: Department of Political Science, University of Calcutta (Alipore Campus).

- Fill and scan the form with self-attested mark sheets, certificates, DOB, caste certificate (if applicable), and proof of payment.

- Pay application fee of ₹100 online via SBI Collect → Educational Institution → Calcutta University → Application for Admission to Ph.D. → Remarks: “application for admission to Ph.D.”
