Introduction
Applications are invited for enrolment to the Ph.D. Programme in Arabic and Persian at the Department of Arabic and Persian, University of Calcutta. Interested candidates may apply in the prescribed pro-forma by paying ₹100/- (online) by 18th September 2025.

Eligibility Criteria
- Master’s degree in Arabic/Persian with 55% marks or ‘B’ grade in UGC 7-point scale or equivalent.
- 5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/PwD candidates and for candidates who obtained Master’s before 19.09.1991.
- NET/SET/MPhil/DST-INSPIRE/Teacher Fellowship holders are exempted from written exam and can appear directly for the viva-voce.
Entrance Test Details
- Written Exam (3 hours, 100 marks): 2 long questions (40 marks) + 30 MCQs (2 marks each).
- No negative marking; based on Master’s level syllabus in Arabic & Persian.
- Qualifying marks: 50%.
- Interview/Viva-Voce: 50 marks, candidates must present a research proposal (max. 1500 words or 4 A4 pages).

- Apply in prescribed format with ₹100/- online payment receipt.
- Submit hard copy of filled application form with documents at:

(12 Noon to 4 PM on working days). - Payment through SBI Collect.
Important Notes
✔ At present, 18 candidates will be enrolled (11 in Arabic and 7 in Persian) subject to qualification and supervisor availability.
✔ Reservation policy as per National/State rules will be strictly followed.
