Introduction
Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D. programme in Education, Department of Education, University of Calcutta for the year 2025. The proforma for application is available on the University website. Applications with a fee of Rs. 100/- paid via SBI Collect must be submitted in hard copy between 8th September 2025 and 19th September 2025 (1 PM – 3 PM) at the Departmental Office, 3rd floor, Alipore Campus.

Eligibility
Candidates must hold a Master’s Degree in Education / M.Ed. with at least 55% marks (Grade B+ in UGC 7-point scale). A relaxation of 5% (i.e. 50%) is applicable for SC/ST/OBC/Differently-abled candidates as per UGC norms.
- UGC/CSIR (JRF), NET/SET/SLET, or M.Phil. qualified candidates are exempted from the written test and may directly appear in the interview.
- Reservation policy applies as per University rules.
Research Entrance Test (RET)
The RET will be a written test of 50 marks, duration 1 hour 30 minutes, held offline at the Department of Education, Alipore Campus.
Syllabus: Research Methodology, Statistical Analysis (UGC-NET in Education), Academic & Critical Writing. Language: English.
Qualifying Marks: 50% (UR), relaxation for reserved categories as per rules.
All qualified candidates and exempted candidates must appear for a 50-mark interview (viva). Final selection and supervisor allocation will be based on interview results subject to University approval.

- Duly filled Application Form
- Receipt of Rs. 100/- application fee via SBI Collect (print copy)
- Self-attested copy of age proof
- Self-attested SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS certificate (if applicable)
- Self-attested mark-sheets of M.A./M.Sc. (Education) / M.Ed. and other relevant certificates
- University Registration Certificate
- Certificates of NET/SET/SLET/M.Phil. (if applicable)
- No Objection Certificate for in-service candidates
- Two passport-size photographs
Important Notes
- Applications must be submitted in a sealed envelope to the Department office.
- Equivalence clearance (if required) must be obtained from the Registrar’s office before submission.
- Appearing in the interview does not guarantee admission or registration.
- Original documents will be verified on the interview day and after results publication.
