The **TIFR GS-2026 Admission** process is open! The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), a Deemed-to-be University, invites applications from exceptionally talented and strongly motivated students for its Graduate Programs. The academic year for the Graduate School (GS-2026) starts from August 1, 2026. The nationwide entrance examination, the first stage of the admission procedure, will be held on **Sunday, 14th December 2025**. Detailed Eligibility Criteria for TIFR GS-2026 Admission

General Eligibility Notes (Applicable to all)
- I-PhD students who successfully complete the program are awarded an MSc degree in addition to the PhD.
- Students holding a 4-year UG degree with $\geq75\%$ aggregate are eligible to apply directly to the PhD program. However, they will not receive a Master’s degree together with the PhD unless explicitly permitted by their Subject Board (currently, only SBTCS allows this).
- I-PhD students may choose to exit with an MSc degree if the Subject Board’s requirements are met.

GS-2026 Examination Schedule

Stipend and Accommodation for GS-2026 Candidates
Selected candidates for the **TIFR GS-2026 Admission** will receive a monthly fellowship.
- **PhD students:** Monthly fellowship of Rs 37,000/-, enhanced to Rs 42,000/- after registration for PhD.
- **I-PhD students:** Monthly fellowship of Rs 25,000/- for the first year. Upon satisfactory performance, this is enhanced to Rs 37,000/- from the second year, and to Rs 42,000/- after registration for a PhD.
Hostel accommodation or House Rent Allowance (HRA), as applicable, is also provided.

Application Fee (Non-Refundable)
- Male Applicants: Rs 1000/-
- Female, Transgender & Other Gender Applicants: Rs 500/-
Payment can be made online by net-banking, credit/debit cards, UPI, and other methods.
Fee Waiver Request
A request for waiver of the application fee on grounds of financial distress may be uploaded during the online application process. One supporting document is necessary, such as:
- A letter from the Principal or the Head of the Department on their letterhead justifying the request, **OR**
- An officially recognized EWS certificate, **OR**
- For full-time employees, a letter from the current employer on their letterhead together with salary slip.
Admission Tests and Alternatives for TIFR GS-2026 Admission
The first stage of the admission procedure is an online test conducted at numerous nationwide locations (53 centers listed, including Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, etc.). The next stage involves one or two rounds of interviews and/or an in-person written test for shortlisted candidates.
Multiple Subject/Alternative Score Consideration
- Candidates may appear for GS-2026 tests in multiple subjects provided the timings do not clash (separate applications and fees required).
- If a candidate appears for two subject tests that are eligible for a particular program, their **best score will be considered**.
- Alternatively, scores from other exams (e.g., GATE/JEST/JRF qualifications from CSIR/DBT/ICMR/UGC) may also be considered by individual programs (refer to the “Eligibility Table” on the website).
- If such candidates also appear for the GS-2026 test, their **best score will be considered**.
**Overseas Applicants:** Those unable to travel to India have the option of appearing for the GS-2026 examination in an online proctored mode (at the same time as students in India) if they submit proof of their overseas residency. This “overseas” option, once exercised, cannot be changed.
