Introduction

PhD Admission 2026-27 notification has been issued for admission to the Ph.D. programme in different subjects and departments. Programme Duration

The minimum duration of the Ph.D. programme is 3 years, including course work. The maximum duration is 6 years from the date of admission, subject to the provisions mentioned in the applicable Ph.D. regulations and prospectus.

PhD Admission 2026-27 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for PhD Admission 2026-27 must satisfy the academic eligibility requirements prescribed in the prospectus.

  • Master's Degree or M.Phil./M.Tech./LL.M. degree with at least 55% aggregate marks in the qualifying degree.
  • The qualifying degree should be from a recognized university/institution.
  • Equivalent CGPA requirements are applicable as specified in the prospectus.
Relaxation in Eligibility
A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or the corresponding CGPA relaxation, is applicable for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently-abled/EWS and other categories as per the applicable UGC norms mentioned in the prospectus.

Selection Criteria & Methodology

Selection shall be finalized based on the prescribed selection methodology, including academic record, research aptitude, ability to work in a team, subject interest, suitability of research interests and the research focus of the department.

Interview / Viva-Voce

An interview/viva-voce is conducted by the respective Departments/Centres. Candidates are required to discuss their research interests before the duly constituted Department Research Committee (DRC).

The final merit list of qualified candidates is prepared by the respective Head/Coordinator/Principal of the Departments/Colleges while taking into account the applicable guidelines and eligibility requirements.

Factors Considered in the Interview

  1. The candidate's research competence.
  2. The research work that can be undertaken at the proposed Department/Centre/Institution/College.
  3. The proposed area of research and whether it can contribute to new/additional knowledge.

Category 2 & 3 Candidates who have qualified NET for appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D. (Category 2), and candidates eligible for Ph.D. admission only (Category 3), with selection according to the prescribed criteria.
GATE / GPAT / Equivalent Candidates who have qualified national-level examinations such as GATE/GPAT or equivalent examinations may be considered as provided in the relevant certificate.
NET / CSIR-NET Applicants who have qualified the relevant NET/CSIR-NET examination without JRF may be considered subject to the academic and interview weightages prescribed in the prospectus.

How to Apply for PhD Admission 2026-27

Candidates should follow the application and admission procedure provided in the notification and prospectus.

  1. Obtain the prescribed Ph.D. Programme Application Form.
  2. Complete the application form with the required personal, academic and other information.
  3. Attach the required certificates, documents and copies as prescribed.
  4. Pay the processing-cum-application fee through the prescribed mode.

General Restrictions
  • No candidate who is in any service shall be admitted unless the required relieving order from the employer is submitted.
  • No candidate is allowed to pursue Ph.D. course work while continuing in full-time service.
  • More than one institution cannot be attended concurrently for pursuing the Ph.D. programme.
  • Admission to the Ph.D. programme is subject to availability of eligible supervisors and seats.

Registration

Each candidate selected for admission to the Ph.D. programme is required to submit the prescribed application/form for registration for examination within the period specified from the date of admission.

Ragging

Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited. The prospectus states that severe action shall be taken according to the applicable rules against those involved in ragging.
