Eligibility Criteria for University of Delhi (DU) PhD Admission 2025-26

Admission to the PhD program is primarily based on the suitability of candidates to specific specializations and adherence to Ordinance VI of the University of Delhi. The criteria are as follows:

  • General Requirement: A Master’s Degree or a professional degree (e.g., M.D., M.Tech.) in the concerned subject with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks or its equivalent grade, with applicable relaxations for reserved categories.
  • Four-Year Bachelor’s Degree Holders: Candidates seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree program must have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale.
  • Exemption from Entrance: Candidates who have qualified for a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or equivalent research positions (with at least 4 years of available fellowship) or hold eligibility for Assistant Professorship in the CSIR/UGC-NET (or equivalent examination)/GATE/NTA Category 2 & 3 may directly appear for the interview.
  • Weightage Rule: For candidates qualifying under the NET/GATE/NTA Categories 2 and 3 (as per UGC Notification dated 27.03.2024), the admission will be based on 70% weightage for test scores and 30% weightage for the interview.
