IIIT Surat PhD Admission 2026-27 is open for motivated and qualified candidates in India for admission to the PhD Programme for 2026-27. In general, External, Part-time and Interdisciplinary scholars have a minimum residential requirement of one semester. Part-time and Interdisciplinary scholars may be permitted to do coursework without a residential requirement with the permission of their employer.

The admission notification specifies minimum educational qualifications according to the PhD research area and admission category. The corrigendum subsequently revised the minimum educational qualification and additional qualifying examination criteria for Mathematics and Computational Sciences and Physical and Applied Sciences.

The corrigendum modifies the PhD July-2026 Admission Notification. The revised criteria apply to the minimum educational qualification and additional qualifying examination requirements for Mathematics and Computational Sciences and Physical and Applied Sciences.

The corrigendum also extends the last date for submission of applications for the PhD programme.

Meritorious candidates possessing a minimum four-year Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent professional degree such as B.E./B.Tech./B.Sc. Tech. with minimum CGPA 7.0 or equivalent may be considered for direct admission to the PhD programme, provided they fulfil any one of the specified conditions.

1. Valid GATE score in the relevant discipline.
2. JRF of CSIR/UGC or DST INSPIRE Fellowship.
3. Minimum 5 years of professional experience as a regular employee in reputed Institutes/Industries/Research Laboratories/Government organisations.

Eligible candidates possessing the minimum educational qualifications and satisfying additional criteria set by the Institute will be called for a written test and interview by the Selection Committee.

1. Candidates meeting the eligibility requirements will be called for an interview and written test.
2. Candidates who obtained their PG degree 10 years earlier as on the last date for receipt of the completed application have to appear for the Institute test.
3. Applications of suitably qualified foreign nationals may be considered with an online interview.
4. Based on academic record and performance in the interview and written test, the Institute Selection Committee will recommend suitable candidates for admission.

For admission under the regular category without fellowship and project category, the departments will adopt common short-listing criteria and have a common merit list.

1. Fill the application form provided with the admission notification.
2. Fill the Google Form to upload the signed and scanned application along with necessary documents justifying the claims.
3. All documents must be self-attested before scanning.
4. Scan the application and other attested documents into a single PDF file of size less than 10 MB.
5. Pay the applicable application fee through NEFT to the specified bank account.
6. Enter the UTR number and transaction date in the online Google Form.
7. Attach the bank payment receipt along with the application.
8. Typewrite the Statement of Purpose (SOP) in the space provided in the application, with a maximum of 500 words.

The application fee is non-refundable and no other mode of payment will be accepted. The fee is to be transferred through NEFT to the bank account specified in the admission notification.

Institute fellowship is available for eligible scholars. The notification states that fellowship will be provided to scholars as per the Institute norms.
