Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU) PhD Admission 2025-26 (PAT-2024) notification has been released by the Examination Department of Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Kameshwaranagar, Darbhanga. This notification invites online applications for the Ph.D. Admission Test – 2024 (PAT-2024) for admission to the Ph.D. Programme. Eligibility Criteria for Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU) PhD Admission 2025-26 (PAT-2024)

A candidate seeking admission to the Ph.D. Programme must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Must possess a Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever a grading system is followed) in the subject concerned or allied subjects from a recognised university.
  • A relaxation of 5% marks, i.e., from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of an equivalent grade will be allowed to those belonging to SC/ST/BC/EBC/Differently-abled categories of candidates.
  • Candidates having the required eligibility till the final date of application can apply for PAT-2024.

Exemption from Ph.D. Admission Test (PAT-2024)

The following categories of candidates are exempted from the PAT-2024, but are required to apply online with the requisite fee:

  • Candidates who have passed UGC-NET/BET/UGC – CSIR NET/GATE/CEED or have secured grants for research, such as fellowships/scholarships offered by DBT/ICMR/ICAR/DST-INSPIRE/CSIR/ICHR etc..
  • Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, and Professors appointed on a substantive post in the UGC pay scale in the teaching department of the University or a Constituent College, who have completed their probation successfully with at least two years of uninterrupted service.
  • Non-teaching employees of this University holding a substantive appointment for more than five years, having secured at least 55% marks in a Master’s Degree, and published at least two research papers in any reputed refereed journals or UGC-identified journals.
  • Candidates who have passed PAT 2021-22 and PAT 2023.

Important Note: Teachers appointed in self-financed courses and teachers belonging to those colleges running on a self-financed basis will not be exempted from the Test.

Interview Requirement: Candidates of the exempted categories will have to appear directly before the interview board as per the schedule to be published later, along with candidates who qualify PAT-2024.

How to Apply & Fee Structure for Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU) PhD Admission 2025-26 (PAT-2024)

How to Apply

  1. Candidates are required to visit the website www.lnmupat.in or the link available on the University website: www.lnmu.ac.in and follow the PAT-2024 process to fill up the Admission Application Form.
  2. Duly filled-up and completed forms must be submitted online along with necessary supporting documents and the requisite Test Fee.
  3. Application forms incomplete in any respect will be rejected.

The mode of payment of the fee is online only (non-refundable) through the payment gateway displayed in the course of filling up the online application form.

Pattern of the Ph.D. Admission Test (PAT-2024)

The Ph.D. Admission Test (PAT-2024) will consist of two papers of 100 marks each. The test will be held in two sittings on 10.01.2026 (Saturday).

Paper Time Format Details
Paper-I 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM 50 Multiple-Choice Questions General teaching and research aptitude (50 x 2 = 100 marks).
Paper-II 01:00 PM to 03:30 PM 9 Subjective-Type Questions Based on the syllabus of the Post Graduate course of L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga.

Paper-II Question Breakdown:

  • Very Short Answer: 4 x 5 marks = 20 marks (Maximum 50 words)
  • Short Answer: 3 x 10 marks = 30 marks (Maximum 150 words)
  • Long Answer: 2 x 25 marks = 50 marks (Maximum 300 words)

Minimum Qualifying Marks

The minimum qualifying marks for the Admission Test (aggregate marks for both papers) are:

  • For General Category Candidates: 50% of aggregate marks
  • For Reserved Category Candidates: 45% of aggregate marks

Admission Test Centre

The test will be held in Darbhanga at different centres, which will be communicated to the candidates properly through the Admit Card.

Reservation Policy and Seat Allocation

The Reservation policy of the State Government will be applicable to the total number of seats available in each subject at the time of admission. The final result shall be prepared as per the Bihar Govt. reservation roster.

Seat Distribution (of total available seats in each subject, after applying the reservation roster):

  • 50% of the seats shall be reserved for candidates who have qualified UGC-NET/BET/UGC-CSIR NET/GATE/CEED.
  • The remaining 50% of the seats shall be filled through the Ph.D. Admission Test (PAT-2024) conducted by the university.

Seat Reversion: If eligible candidates with UGC-NET/BET/UGC-CSIR NET/GATE/CEED qualifications are not available in a particular subject, the vacant seats in that category shall be filled based on the merit list of the Ph.D. Admission Test, following the reservation roster.

Tie-Breaking Rules in PAT-2024

In case of a tie in the total score obtained in PAT-2024, the following criteria will be considered sequentially:

  1. Marks obtained in the Post Graduate degree will be considered.
  2. If the PG marks are also the same, the date of birth will be considered.
